This September to October, photography enthusiasts will have good reason to visit Alila Cha-am as it hosts workshops conducted by two of Thailand’s most prominent photographers.
‘Photographer Talks through Lenses’ - 17 September 2010
This half day workshop promises to be a real treat for fans of Associate Professor Dr. Kitti Attakitmongcol who, as a well-known photography blogger, is perhaps better known by his online name Chan Mai Chai Kho. His blog at http://rainynight.bloggang.com is now the most popular e-magazine reviewing the luxury lifestyle and interior design of 5-star hotels and resorts in over 60 places in Thailand and overseas. With many members on his blog site, he has become a trendsetter when it comes to reviewing hotels and resorts. His works have also been published in a ‘20 Romantic Resorts’ book. He currently teaches in the school of electrical engineering - Suranaree University of Technology in northeastern Thailand.
Conducted personally by Dr. Kitti, the workshop offers a rare opportunity to meet the man behind the blog, and get a glimpse into his approach to photography and the inspiration behind his work.

Portrait of Love — 27 & 28 October 2010
Those looking to improve their photography skills while enhancing their relationships will find a fascinating experience in ‘Portrait of Love’. This two-day workshop designed for couples - whether a married or dating couple, two family members or two friends - is a wonderful opportunity for anyone looking to improve their photographic knowledge and techniques with guidance from an expert. Focusing on the portrait style in couples also serves as a great way to strengthen the relationship between the photographer and the subject.
The workshop will consist of a half-day indoor session covering in-depth theory and real-life experiences, followed by a full-day outdoor session throughout Alila Cha-am’s award-winning resort. Participants will explore ideas using the resort’s gorgeous environment and facilities as a backdrop, while enjoying the excellence of Alila hospitality services, including great food and a spa treatment. They will be introduced to many resort activities and opportunities for social networking, as well as have a chance to win prizes from Alila and other sponsors.
The workshop will be conducted by prominent photojournalist, Mr. Athit Perawongmetha, whose work has been featured in numerous international publications including The New York Times, Time magazine, The Guardian (UK), and International Herald Tribune. He has worked for Getty Images News Agency covering news in Thailand and other countries in Asia. He has also been part of several projects with UNICEF (Thailand), Greenpeace Southeast Asia, Save the Children (Sweden) and National Geographic (Thai edition). Athit also has the honour of being the only Thai photographer invited to attend the prestigious International Festival of Photojournalism 2010 in France.

As part of Alila Cha-am’s support and education of the local community, the resort will be providing a scholarship to four local university students to attend the workshops, providing them an opportunity to nurture their interest in photography as a hobby or potential career.
