Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has appointed Mr. Thierry Douin as vice president and general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok, overseeing properties in the Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar and Thailand.
Prior to this new appointment, Mr. Douin was during the past 6 years the general manager of the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore and vice president for Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines.
A French national, Mr. Douin joined Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts in August 2001 as general manager of Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong and in October 2004 was appointed general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore. On 1 April 2005, Mr. Douin was promoted to area manager overseeing the Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort, Singapore and Traders Hotel, Singapore. On 1 April 2009, he was again promoted, this time to vice president with regional responsibilities for Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Mr. Douin has more than 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Prior to joining Shangri-La, he was general manager of the Siam Inter-Continental Hotel in Bangkok from January 1998 to July 2001. He spent 19 years in service with the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts group and held appointments on five continents. He started his career with the Dubai InterContinental in the United Arab Emirates, after which he relocated to Asia as food & beverage manager of the then Borobudur InterContinental, Jakarta. Mr. Douin then moved to Japan to open the first InterContinental managed hotel in Japan, the Yokohama Grand InterContinental as director of food & beverage.
In 1993, he was promoted to executive assistant manager at the hotel Tamanaco InterContinental, Caracas, Venezuela before returning to Asia where he joined the Seoul InterContinental, as resident manager. In 1996, he was appointed general manager to open the first five-star international hotel in Cambodia, the InterContinental hotel Phnom Penh.
A graduate from the Hotel School of Granville in France, Thierry Douin also holds the Hotel Management Diploma from the AH&MA Educational Institute of which he is a Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) and a Certified Food and Beverage Executive (CFBE). He is also a graduate of the INSEAD Asia International Executive Programme.
As general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok, Mr. Douin will take on the leadership role of one of the flagship properties of Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.
