ข่าวทั่วไป Tuesday August 24, 2010 14:03 —PRESS RELEASE LOCAL

Bangkok--24 Aug--Siemens Siemens, the world’s leading green infrastructure company, today launched its Southeast Asian Green Technology Journalism Awards to acknowledge and reward journalists and young reporters for excellent reporting on energy efficiency, industrial productivity and sustainability issues. This first-of-its-kind regional awards program is open to print and online media from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. “Concerns such as climate change, sustainable living and conservation are at the forefront of our modern society. There is a vital need to create sustainable economies which engender prosperity and protect resources with leading-edge and environmentally viable technologies. And an important part of this effort is the support and advancement of quality journalism in this field, because building an awareness of green issues is the first step towards ‘walking the talk’, as we do at Siemens,” said Mr. Anthony Chay, President and CEO of Siemens Ltd. Thailand. All submissions for the Siemens Green Technology Journalism Awards (Southeast Asia) must be published from 1 January to 31 December 2010, in mainstream media such as newspapers, magazines or websites, and in university bulletins or journals for the Young Journalist category. Articles will be judged in English, so journalists are encouraged to include their own translations for Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin, Tagalog, Thai and Vietnamese reports. Entries will be evaluated according to their news value, relevance to the three award categories — energy efficiency, industrial productivity and sustainability — as well as the journalist’s writing and language technique. A local panel of judges will submit the best articles from each country to a regional jury, who will make the final awards decision. This high profile panel will consist of academics and opinion leaders, media and business professionals, as well as public officials from the participating countries. A total of eight awards will be given out, with a category and a merit winner in each group. Winners will receive cash prizes as well as the opportunity to attend a journalism seminar on sustainability and new technologies organized by the Technical University of Berlin and to visit Siemens’ R&D and production centers in Germany. Registration ends on 31 December 2010, 11pm (Singapore time). More details are available at www.siemens.co.th/SGTJA2010.
