Bangkok--27 Aug--The Vijitt Resort Phuket
The rubber tree is unfortunately disappearing very quickly on Phuket island falling victim to the interests of commercial tourism. However here at Vijitt Resort we maintain over 150 trees and make rubber tapping part of our environmental programme.
Rubber is an important source of income for many villagers in the south of Thailand. You can identify a rubber plantation by the characteristic coconut shell attached to rubber trees which collects the rubber from the tree. Sheets of rubber that look like bathmats are then hung out to dry in the sun. Rubber tapping provides a source of income for people here in Phuket.
Our guests are invited to participate in activities such as rubber tapping. It’s a great way for our guests to experience local culture. Guests will be able to watch the process of latex production from tapping to rolling to the finished product and have the opportunity to tap themselves and create rubber-based mementos. Proceeds from this activity are donated to local projects. This allows us here at Vijitt Resort to maintain harmony between commercialism and the preservation of the natural environment and gives us the opportunity to contribute to our local community.
