Supposing that we ask children whether they know Thai Encyclopedia, it’s certainly believed that everybody will answer that they do know it because it’s a familiar book since our childhood. It’s a book that combines complete branches of academic knowledge, being used as an impeccably credible reference. It’s deemed as a key tool allowing the general public to enrich their knowledge and develop themselves in an efficient way. So, we can say that Thai Encyclopedia is an authentic source of knowledge by Thai people for benefits of Thai people.
Foreseeing the importance of encyclopedia, H.M. the King kindly appointed to organize the council of encyclopedia operation in hope to make it serve as a helpful book for youth, and encourage Thai youth to have fundamental knowledge fields. Each encyclopedia book will contain different writing styles which are appropriate to each youth level i.e. little children, middle children and late children as well as interested adults.
Currently, Thai encyclopedia series comprises 35 books. Criteria to choose the topic being published in the series is based on foundation of things which will bring about improvement, progress and cultural and political stability along with Thailand’s education and interesting and useful topics in various fields surrounding us such as art of Thai textile weaving, nuclear factory, royal barge procession, religion and Thai beliefs system, resource and environment management, agricultural product preservation, blood and blood banks in Thailand, numeral evolution and history and Tsunami — for instance.
The Thai encyclopedia series is a useful book series for children and Thai youth, serving as a resource of knowledge and self-development. However, children have lesser opportunity to get into the encyclopedia than they should do. Therefore, Amway for Thai Society Foundation continues the “One by One: World of Wisdom” activity with an aim to develop potentials of children and Thai youth for intellectual excellence under the concept “World of Wisdom with Thai Encyclopedia” which is the core concept of the project this year. The Foundation delivers Thai junior encyclopedia series upon the royal intention of H.M. the King to Amway Library and 36 general libraries in an objective to provide divers academic knowledge fields worth to learn to youth thoroughly.
Mr. Kittawat Ritteerawee, General Manager of Amway (Thailand) Co., Ltd. and Commitee of Amway for Thai Society Foundation, reveals that “Amway for Thai Society Foundation has operated for children and youth for a longtime. With the course of the time, the company and the foundation have lent a helping hand to more than 200,000 children. All the time, Amway has organized giving back activities which turned to be a corporate culture to which we have constantly adhered. And it became the source of collaboration between Amway Business Owners and staff who have devoted their time and money to work for public benefits. In 2009, we can account for more than 14,200 hours of collaboration for society”
“Amway Foundation has an idea to continue the royal intention of H.M. the King who needs to organize the Thai Junior Encyclopedia Project with a strong will to spread academic knowledge in various fields to youth thoroughly so that they can utilize that knowledge to help themselves. As a result, the “One by One: World of Wisdom” activity of this year will be operated under the concept “World of Wisdom with Thai Encyclopedia” by giving a grand edition of Thai Encyclopedia book and its integrated knowledge series of 35 books to Amway Library and 36 school libraries. Furthermore, Amway Foundation will organize book donation activity for children and youth, both new books and second-hand books to deprived schools in remote areas. It’s expected that, this year, there will be more than 15,000 Thai children who benefit from this activity”

Lieutenant Youwarit Lathong, Director of Border Patrol Police School of Na Yaw village, Chachoengsao province, says that “The school is very delighted that Amway Foundation offered useful things like the junior encyclopedia series to underprivileged children in backcountry. This set of encyclopedia is not only useful for the classrooms of geography, history as well as new scientific field of knowledge, but also an utmost resource of knowledge for children’s everyday life such as knowledge of flora and fauna. Children can learn this world without going far away. It’s considered as another good education material for children’s self-development in hope that the set of encyclopedia will help develop children and youth in surrounding areas to be knowledgeable persons and grow to be good adults for their communities and help develop their communities to progress afterward.
Waraporn Inkai, Prathom 5 student and representative from the Border Patrol Police School of Na Yaw village, says that “I’m excited and glad to receive this set of encyclopedia from kind-hearted adults. We will utilize knowledge from the encyclopedia in our studies, everyday life and self-development. We will also spend useful spare time by reading encyclopedia more because it nurtures our reading habits. We believe that good books are assimilated to knowledge treasure which will open windows to the world and bring great opportunity to travel through letters to places where we cannot go ourselves. Personally, I’m interested in science category of encyclopedia in particular because there is new knowledge to learn, and it allows me to see miracle of things on earth. So, I really like reading this as I can obtain a lot of knowledge on rice, from rice growing to rice sprout evolution — for instance. I will tell the knowledge I receive from reading to my parents so that it will be helpful for career of my family, and increase harvest and earnings from rice farming”
Suchanun Joujui, Prathom 5 student of Border Patrol Police School of Na Yaw village, adds that “I have opportunity to read many encyclopedia books, but the one touching me most is the one which has the contents about Thai painting. I appreciate Thai delineation most because it can be applied with my studies in art subject. I can learn many patterns and techniques of Thai delineation from the encyclopedia before. When I go to make merit at the temple, I can observe and differentiate patterns on sanctuary and monastery. It’s very helpful.”
It’s a great pleasure that Amway Foundation has opportunity to give back to society, that is opening up the world for Thai youth by giving knowledge and education opportunity to children so that they could grow up as a key force to collaboratively develop the country. Offering Thai encyclopedia book set is like giving priceless treasure beyond other things because the contents in each book of encyclopedia cover every knowledge field completely so that youth can take that knowledge to expand in order to enhance their potentiality and use it as an important tool to live their life in today’s society with peace.
