BMW Group Thailand has paid tribute to Kerry Logistics (Thailand) Limited, its suppler chain manager. In the first half of 2010, BMW Group Thailand recorded 56% sales growth for BMW and 27% growth for MINI, compared to the same period of the previous year, while the premium segment grew 22%. Kerry Logistics’ efficient product handling was a key element of the strong success the company indicated.
Mr. Peerakiti Kitsubun, Director, Import and Export, BMW Group Thailand, commented that an essential element of success in the automotive industry is the efficient integrated logistics and supply chain management. Since the company provides a wide and customized range of products to its customers, integrated logistics and supply chain solutions play a major role in achieving a high-level of efficiency and flexibility.
“BMW’s Plant Rayong is regarded as one of the most efficient and flexible assembly plants, which is a key enabler for the success of BMW in Thailand. The integrated logistics and supply chain solution plays a major role to achieve such high-level of efficiency and flexibility,” said Mr. Peerakiti.
Currently, BMW Group Thailand is using the ‘Free Zone’ warehouse service and general cargo at the Kerry Logistics Laem Chabang Center. The Free Zone warehouse facilitates importers, who will get the privilege of customs and VAT exemption.
As for the imported models, BMW and MINI cars are imported to from its plants in Europe and the USA to Kerry Logistics’ Free Zone in Thailand. The imported cars will be stationed at the warehouse and will be released when they are ordered by local customers. BMW and MINI, therefore, receive the privilege of customs and VAT exemption until the car is released from the Free Zone facility.
