Bangkok--24 Sep--Weber Shandwick Employees of General Motors (Thailand) Ltd. and Chevrolet Sales (Thailand) Ltd. recently joined forces to improve facilities of the Eastern Sugar Company community school. Both companies, through their CSR programs, are strongly committed to encouraging learning and education among Thai youths. “Youths are the sprouts that are growing dynamically, and should therefore be well taken care of. GM and our employees are proud to support this mission. We are not only committed to designing, building and selling the world’s best vehicles, we are committed to building a better Thai society,” said Mr. Supakpong Charoenpornpanich, Senior Manager - Environmental and Site Utilities, Worldwide Facilities Group, General Motors (Thailand). Starting with schools in the vicinity of Rayong (where GM’s facilities are located), about 100 employees volunteered to participate in the two-day activities to renovate the school’s library, first aid room, playground, classrooms, toilets and main buildings as well as the plantation area. They also jointly donated stationary, personal computers and garbage bins to the school. This activity aims to provide students with not just better educational tools, but also heighten the students’ awareness for the need to conserve the environment. GM and Chevrolet Thailand’s community outreach campaigns have so far resulted in the construction of libraries for a number of schools in remote areas. Additionally, GM and Chevrolet has also supplied and delivered automotive devices and technologies to vocational colleges across the country. Apart from educational outreach, GM has also shown tremendous concern towards the environment, and is committed to making as little impact as possible to its surrounding communities and its environments. It believes that the environment should not just be clean, healthy and natural but it should also be sustainable for future generations. GM’s recent success in making its facilities landfill-free is a case in point.
