Bangkok--27 Sep--Standard & Poor's
Standard & Poor's Ratings Services upgraded three issuers to investment grade ('BBB-' and higher) from speculative grade ('BB+' and lower) since the most recent rising stars report. This brings the year-to-date 2010 tally of rising stars to 20 issuers with rated debt worth US$41.59 (?32.01) billion, said an article published today by Standard & Poor's Global Fixed Income Research, titled "Global Potential Rising Stars (Premium)."
Issuers poised to acquire rising star status total 17. We define potential rising stars as entities rated 'BB+' with either a positive outlook or ratings on CreditWatch with positive implications.
Since our previous report, we removed one issuer and added three to our list of potential rising stars. These changes bring the number of issuers on our list of potential rising stars to 17 with US$60.90 (?46.87) billion in rated debt. By number of issuers, this exceeds our average count in the past 12 months by three.
"As of Sept. 15, 2010, rising stars led fallen angels by six," said Diane Vazza, head of Standard & Poor's Global Fixed Income Research. "Despite recent positive developments, we currently expect more credit quality deterioration than improvement as potential fallen angels maintain their lead over potential rising stars at a ratio of 4 to 1."
