FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, recently supported an environmental awareness day at the Ban Dek Rae Ron School in Samutprakarn, Bangkok, to help educate children about the preservation of their natural surroundings.
FedEx employees visited the school with representatives of The Magic Eyes Organization, an NGO that offers a range of programs to improve the urban environment in Thailand. The students participated in a day-long series of fun-filled activities and learned about the practical benefits of adopting the ‘four Rs’ (Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Recycle) in their everyday lives.
FedEx employees also hosted a lunch for the students and their teachers and donated gifts, equipment and materials, most of which can be used on an ongoing basis by the school to further its own, future environmental efforts. .
“We were delighted to support this event as part of our FedEx Cares Week program and to help the children learn about the importance of protecting the environment and taking real action in our daily lives,” said David Carden, managing director of FedEx Express Thailand and Indochina. “FedEx is a global express transportation company that connects the world. However, we also take our environmental responsibilities seriously. FedEx employees are taking part in events such as this throughout the world this week as we celebrate the spirit of volunteerism and community involvement. In Asia Pacific, the activities are focused on the environment”.
Launched in 2005, the annual FedEx Cares Week provides FedEx employees all over the world with volunteer opportunities that benefit the communities in which the company operates. 580 volunteers contributed more than 1,750 service hours in the Asia Pacific region during FedEx Cares Week last year and even more employees are set to participate this year. This is the third year that FedEx is participating in FedEx Care Week in Asia Pacific.
