Prime Minister Visits Wangchan Valley to Join Groundbreaking Ceremony for Construction of “EECi, New Innovation City”, Pushing the Country towards Thailand 4.0

Bangkok--27 Feb--PTT Gen. Prayut Chan-O-Cha, Prime Minister together with Gen. Anupong Paojinda, Minister of Interior, Dr. Siri Jirapongphan, Minister of Energy, Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, which is (Acting as Minister of Science and Technology), Dr. Teerakiat Jareonsettasin, Minister of Education, Dr. Pailin Chuchottaworn, Deputy Minister of Transport, and Mr. Somchai Harnhirun, Deputy Minister of Industry today (Feb 27th) visit Wangchan Valley, PTT Group's education, innovation and technology area. These members of the cabinet are presented with the progress of development area that is set to be the Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation (EECi) in Tambon Payupni, Wangchan district, Rayong province. PTT plans to start its construction of infrastructure network and utilities system, whereas, National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) is responsible for the construction of research and innovation building. The construction will be completed by 2020. On this occasion, the Prime Minister also attends the groundbreaking ceremony to launch the construction and oversees the EECi area at the observation tower. Moreover, Gen Prayut leads the team to stopover at Kamnoetvidya Scinece Academy School (KVIS), Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology (VISTEC), and Wangchan Forest Learning Center where they are welcomed by, Mr.Surasak Chareornsirichot, Rayong Governor, Mr. Chansin Treenuchagron, PTT President & Chief Executive Officer, and executives. Mr. Chansin Treenuchagron, President & Chief Executive Officer, PTT Public Company Limited, said that PTT and National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) have jointly developed EECi with an aim to be science, technology, and innovation city pushing the nation towards Thailand 4.0. PTT will construct an infrastructure network and a utilities system on 3,455 Rai in Wangchan Valley under the Smart Natural Innovation Platform concept. This platform was designed to incorporate innovation ecosystem, to create end-to-end research partnership network and innovation development, to support knowledge transfer to regional and national level, to encourage the commercialization of research, to produce experts specialized in science, technology and innovation, as well as to attract investment from global companies. "All over 40 years, PTT is relentlessly committed to undertake business in a sustainable manner; namely, the great importance is placed upon the sustainable management by balancing the 3P i.e. development of human resource, community and society (People), conservation of natural resources, and environment (Planet) and sustainable business (Prosperity). Regarding the EECi development project, PTT Group is ready to support the policy to push the national economic, which will result in improving people's quality of life. KVIS and VISTEC, located on EECi, will be the key institutions to produce workforces specialized in science, technology, and innovation to the country. These experts are the importance instruments for high-level research production, facilitating enhancement of innovation ecosystem, as well as development of innovation platform and smart community. Sustainable EECi will raise the competitive edge of Thailand's industrial sector, while improving people's quality of life following the government's Thailand 4.0 policy which will benefit to national economy in the long run", Mr. Chansin added.
