Album to Feature 'Boom,' the Official Song of The 2002 FIFA World Cup(TM) From Anastacia and the Official Anthem of the 2002 FIFA World Cup(TM)

Sony Music today announced that it has reached an agreement with the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) through which Sony Music will develop and release the Official Music of the 2002 FIFA World Cup(TM). The International Official Album, which will be released immediately before the start of the FIFA World Cup(TM) in May of 2002, will feature tracks from artists representing numerous countries that have qualified for the finals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup(TM). Sony Music International will distribute the release through its network of worldwide affiliates. The host countries for 2002 FIFA World Cup(TM) are Korea and Japan.
The International Official Song of the 2002 FIFA World Cup(TM) will be Sony Music artist Anastacia's "Boom," which was written specially for the occasion by Anastacia and Glen Ballard. Anastacia will debut the song during the internationally televised Final Draw for the 2002 FIFA World Cup(TM) on December 1st, 2001 in Busan, Korea. In addition, the Official Anthem of the 2002 FIFA World Cup(TM), which was composed by Sony Music artist Vangelis, will debut in a special performance by a symphony orchestra during the event in Busan. Vangelis' anthem will feature traditional Korean music from Kim Duk Soo Samulnori, and traditional Japanese drumming from Sony Music artists Kodo.

In addition to the International Official Album of the 2002 FIFA World Cup(TM), Sony Music will release the Official "Korea/Japan" Album of the 2002 FIFA World Cup(TM) featuring artists from this year's host countries, Korea and Japan, which includes the Official "Korea/Japan" Song of the 2002 FIFA World Cup(TM), a collaboration by Korean and Japanese artists, celebrating their unique partnership and paying homage to their shared passion for Football.
Anastacia's critically acclaimed debut album, Not That Kind, has made the Top 10 Album Charts around the world, earning gold, platinum and multi-platinum sales status in more than a dozen countries and selling over 5 million copies worldwide. Anastacia's second album, Freak of Nature, was released internationally on November 26th, 2001.
Vangelis began composing and performing as a child, and later earned renown as a composer of film scores including compositions for "Salut Jerusalem," the Oscar winning "Chariots of Fire," and "Blade Runner." Other Vangelis compositions include his just released Sony Classical album, "Mythodea -- Music For the NASA Mission: 2001 Mars Odyssey," scores for Roger Donaldson's "The Bounty," Liliana Cavani's "Francesco," and Roman Polanski's "Bitter Moon." In the early 1990s, his main theme for the score to Ridley Scott's "1492 -- Conquest of Paradise" was a number one single in Europe, with the album of the same name selling more than 4 million copies worldwide.
Kim Duk-Soo Samulnori is a group of dynamic musicians dedicated to performing and preserving traditional Korean music and dance. Since these superb percussionists joined together in 1978, Kim Duk-Soo Samulnori has sparked a renaissance in Korea's music scene and garnered worldwide acclaim.They have collaborated with many highly acclaimed musicians from around the world from a variety of styles of music. They have performed on over 4,000 stages throughout the globe and released 20 recordings worldwide.
Kodo was formed in 1981 by a community of people who had come to Sado Island in the Sea of Japan to devote themselves to the study of the Japanese "taiko" drum. Their objectives are not only to preserve the traditional Japanese performing arts, but also to create new directions for what they believe are still vibrant art-forms. The group has released 10 albums worldwide and has toured internationally to sold-out crowds for the past twenty years, playing at the world's leading venues, including Carnegie Hall.
