LOS ANGELES, Calif., July 7 -- PRNewswire/ AsiaNet Canon Communications LLC today announced plans to launch two new products -- a quarterly Chinese language magazine, CMDM (China Medical Device Manufacturer) and the MEDTEC China exhibition and conference -- to serve China's fast-growing medical manufacturing industry. Canon will receive active support for both initiatives from the China Association for Medical Devices Industry (CAMDI), which represents nearly 4,000 member companies and has strong ties to the country's State Food & Drug Administration (SFDA). Canon has put CMDM magazine on a fast track, with the premiere issue scheduled for January 2005. The initial circulation will be 6,000. The MEDTEC China show will debut in the fall of 2005, with enthusiastic cooperation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Commenting on the announcement, William F. Cobert, President & CEO of Canon Communications LLC stated, "China's medical manufacturing market is growing at an astonishing rate and much of its infrastructure is already in place. Through these major product line extensions, we will expand our global reach and be in a strong position to assist our core customer segment -- high-technology OEM suppliers -- in serving the Chinese market." For the past 25 years, Canon has published the leading publications for the global medical device industry, providing in-depth news and information to a monthly OEM readership that includes product design engineers, R&D and senior management. The MEDTEC (Medical Equipment Design & Technology Exhibition & Conference) international show series was launched in 1997 and now includes annual events in Stuttgart, Germany and Galway, Ireland. According to Frost & Sullivan's 2002 Country Industry Forecast: Chinese Healthcare Industry, China's total healthcare market grew well over 100 percent in the five-year period ending in 2001. During the same timeframe, the share of the medical devices and equipment segment of this market increased from 5 percent to nearly 17 percent. "We enthusiastically support Canon's new products in China," said CAMDI's Chairman Jiang Feng. "Our member companies need a dedicated industry journal and exhibition to meet the sharply growing demands of China's healthcare marketplace. Canon's international accomplishments in trade publishing and event organization are well known to us and, in terms of providing access to vital information and world-class suppliers, they are clearly the global leader."
