Berlin, May 21 (UNS-AsiaNet) - After consolidation, AgrEvo's net global sales in the first quarter of 1996 totaled approximately DM 1 billion compared to around DM 960 million in the first quarter of 1995. This result was achieved despite the fact that due to unfavourable weather conditions in parts of Europe and especially in the US, market developments in the first quarter did not meet expectations. Adjusted for currency movements, sales increased by 4 per cent in spite of sluggish market developments in some areas. Sales developments were particularly gratifying in Latin America, the international region (Commonwealth of Independent States and Africa), as well as in Asia/Australia. In Europe, sales increased slightly, whereas in North America, they fell short of the previous year's figure. AgreVo expects to be able to considerably exceed 1995 sales in spite of the delayed development in Europe and the US. CONTACT: Hoechst Schering Agrevo GmbH, Tel Frankfurt +49 69 3053950.
