Juti Krairerk, Minister of Information Technology and Communications, and Alongkorn Ponlaboot, Deputy Minister of Commerce, witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Intellectual Property Department and CAT Telecom to co-develop Thailand Planet project — the virtual world on the web aiming to show case Thailand’s business entities and tourist attractions.
Mr. Alongkorn said the cooperation to help develop Thailand Planet project, the virtual world presentation on the web using information technology to develop communication tools that could support business engagement. “The website called Thailand Planet will be the first virtual world website sponsored by the government sector that will attract foreign investors through the presentation of Thai culture history and tradition in a manner that is similar to real world,” he said.
Thailand Planet is a 3D reality presentation on the web that showcases tourist attractions, shopping venues, restaurants, government offices and business establishments in every province of Thailand. It is also a venue for business discussion and transaction similar to the actual world.
“Its intention is to providing valuable information such as shop and business establishment and tourist attractions and local innovations on website with a view to stimulating commercialization and business transaction that would consequently support the growth of Thailand creative industries and the Thai economy in general. This is also the projects to implement the current government creative economy policy, he said.
The work of Thailand Planet in virtual world format will be shown to the public for the first time at Thailand International Creative Economy Forum (TICEF) during November 28-30, 2010 at Centara Grand Bangkok.
Patchima Thanasanti, Director-General of Intellectual Property Department, said Thailand had a number of creators and intellectuals capable of creating modern digital animations. “The ability can be used to incorporate the rich and unique cultural heritage and tradition of Thailand to generate satisfactory business returns as well as attracting local and overseas investors. Of course, there is a need to develop production capabilities as well as service satisfactions in order to compete in the global business arena,” she said.
Jirayuth Sungsrithong, Managing Director of CAT Telecom Public Company Limited, added that CAT was an institution equipped with comprehensive communications network and this recently launched cooperation with Intellectual Property Department would contribute significantly to Thailand’s cultural activities and tourisms. “It will allow the local people to use this channel to create more business for operators from all levels — small to large. In addition, this is also a pride of the country to see valuable information being gathered in a virtual reality presentation that leads to more business transactions and revenues, creating much greater benefits for the nation,” he concluded.
