CPF’s shrimp hits exports high

ข่าวทั่วไป Wednesday November 10, 2010 16:48 —PRESS RELEASE LOCAL

Bangkok--10 Nov--CPF Mr.Pisit Ohmpornnuwat, Executive Vice President of Charoen Pokphand Foods PLC (CPF) revealed that this year overseas export order for shrimp has increased significantly and it will continue to the first quarter of next year. “Normally, order from the European Union, Japan and the United States will pause at late October but this year export order continues until mid November and expects that this will proceed till the first quarter of next year. Besides the demand increases, shrimp price remains high and will rise to 10-15 percent in the first quarter of next year. Especially, the processed shrimp, for example, CPF’s shrimp export will receive benefit on price increase approximately 30-40 percent.” The reason of rising in shrimp price is due to the shortage of world’s shrimp production. Important shrimp producers e.g. Indonesia, Vietnam, Mexico, and Brazil face epidemic problem and some countries such as China and Vietnam encounter natural disaster. Importer countries therefore shift their import orders to Thailand. The recent situation of shrimp production in Thailand reduces 20-30 percent resulting from the effect of flood together with the winter season for shrimp farming. As a result, domestic shrimp price will consequently increase from December onwards e.g. shrimp 60pcs/kg will increase from 120-125 Baht to 127-130 Baht, 100pcs/kg from 90 Baht to 95 Baht. Thai shrimp’s industry and shrimp farmers definitely continue benefit from the situation to next year. The situation provides CPF, as the biggest exporter of Thai shrimp, with advantage on increase in export target volume 53% from 34,000 tons last year to 52,000 tons this year or 7,800 million Baht to 12,000 million Baht. The main export markets are the European Union 35 percent, Japan 30 percent, the United States 15-20 percent and the rest are Korea and Australia.
