Organisers of Asia’s only mass night race split the Sundown event into two separate races to accommodate runners of all standards; Interested runners can sign-up online for both events at www.sundownmarathon.com.
The Sundown Marathon 2011 (www.sundownmarathon.com), Asia’s only mass night running event, returns bigger, better and more challenging after more than 19,500 registered for this year’s event. Organisers, HiVelocity Pte Ltd, have made the bold decision of splitting next year’s Sundown into two separate races, the Sundown Marathon to be held on Saturday 28 May 2011 and the Sundown Ultra Marathon to be held on Saturday 25 June 2011.
“The Sundown Marathon is one of the region’s most eagerly anticipated running events and the participation numbers for both have grown year on year. We have decided to split the dates of the Sundown Marathon and Sundown Ultra Marathon races to provide an even smoother and more enjoyable night race experience for all runners. Runners relish a challenge and with each finishing line crossed the desire to go further and faster grows,” explained Benjamin Wee, general manager, HiVelocity Pte Ltd.
“The venues and routes are still being worked out but we guarantee that the Sundown races will be unique and challenging for all who are bold enough to embark on this brave challenge,” he added.
Unlike previous years, the Sundown Ultra Marathon distance will increase to 100km from 84km. Runners of this elite distance will have to carry hydration packs and cover the distance within the 16-hour cut-off mark. There will be hydration top-up stations every 10km and food supply stations after the 40km mark. The Sundown Ultra Marathon is expected to see about 1,000 participants.
Not to be overshadowed, will be the equally challenging Sundown Marathon 2011. Set to take place on Saturday 28 May 2011. HiVelocity promise a host of improvements to next year’s race to make the event even more challenging and exciting. Based on runner feedback, a new 10km category for men will also be introduced, making the Sundown 2011 event the only “dusk to dawn” race in the world to provide a full suite of race categories from 10km to 21km to 42km for both sexes.
Online registration for the Sundown Marathon 2011 and Sundown Ultra Marathon 2011 opened today at 1000hrs. Apart from registration, more information and latest updates about the event can be found at: www.sundownmarathon.com. Venue and route will be announced online at a later date.
