Bangkok--25 Nov--TQPR
Returning for the second year, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva will be the special V.I.P. guest and open the Ploenchit Fair, which will take place on Saturday 27 November 2010, at the Shrewsbury International School between 10 am — 8 pm. Organized annually by the British Community in Thailand Foundation for the Needy (BCTFN), the fair supports a range of diverse charity projects in all regions of Thailand, to promote self-sufficiency and improve the lives of the needy.
“I wish to extend my most sincere congratulations to British Community in Thailand Foundation for the Needy (BCTFN) on the success of the Ploenchit Fair, which has been held annually for the past three decades. I truly enjoyed attending the event last year, and I am pleased to see that this year it is attracting even more participants,” Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva stated.
The Ploenchit Fair has become one of the biggest and most loved events of the social calendar in Bangkok since first being held at the British Embassy in 1956. Featuring over 50 shopping outlets, the Petticoat Lane has charity stalls selling a vast array of treasures ranging from clothes, gifts, and cosmetic products to food stuffs and carpets. Various stalls will offer fun and interactive games for everyone, with a chance to win great prizes.
“Ploenchit fair is not only an event where family and friends get together to enjoy memorable moments, but it is also an opportunity to share with those who are in need. I thank the foundation and the British community in Thailand for their continuous contribution to Thai society,” Prime Minster Abhisit added.
HOW TO GET THERE
Skytrain to Taksin Station and free shuttle boat service to Shrewsbury School or 1922 Charoen Krung Road (exit Chan Road) off the Expressway, limited parking available.
WHERE THE MONEY GOES
BCTFN has raised over 50 million baht at the Ploenchit Fair since 2000 alone. This has enabled the Committee to support a vast range of diverse charity projects in all regions of Thailand. The fundamental aim of our support is to promote self-sufficiency and to improve the lives of the needy.
The Committee never allocates cash, always oversees the projects personally and monitors progress on a regular monthly basis.
Projects include agricultural schemes, sanitation and irrigation schemes, educational materials and equipment, medical equipment and training, fish and silk worms raising projects, assistance with HIV and Aids awareness programmes, rice banks, village weaving and vocational skills projects. Some 25 — 30 different Thai charities are supported every year. For full details please refer to ourwebsite www.ploenchitfair.org
