Prasarnmit International Programme educating Thai’s for global success The increasing importance Thai parents are placing on high quality international education for their children was amply reflected last weekend when more than 85 parents and their children attended an open day hosted by the Satit Prasarnmit International Programme at Srinakharinwirot University.Established last year as an initiative of Satit Prasarnmit Demonstration School (Secondary) (SPDS), itself a special unit of the faculty of education at Srinakharinwirot University, the international programme is aimed at providing Thai children and students from other countries with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the internationally globalized business environment of the 21st-century.
The Satit Prasarnmit International Prorgramme (SPIP) is the only full international education programme conducted in a Thai government school based on the British National Curriculum, with students entering the programme in the equivalent of the Thai Mathayom 1 level for the British Year 8, or the equivalent of Thai Mathayom 3 or 4 levels for the Year 10 and 11 entries.Students in Years 8 and 9 undertake a challenging course of study comprising a wide range of subjects in preparation for study for the internationally recognized International General Certificate of School Education (IGCSE - equivalent of O levels for British students), the GCSE Advanced Subsidiary (GCSE A/S) certificate, or the GCSE Advanced level (IGCSE A2) certificate on completion of Year 13.Parents and children attending the open day on Saturday heard from SPDS director Supapak Paramatikul, a driving force behind the establishment of the international programme, who explained how the new course of study provided parents with the opportunity to enroll their children in a course that prepared them for advanced study in either Thai universities, or at Universities in foreign countries.Mrs. Supapak said the SPIP had generated intense interest from parents, higher education institutions and other Thailand government schools, with the model established by SPDS being a benchmark other Thai government schools are now preparing to follow.
Mrs. Supapak said the addition of the international education programme provided the opportunity for Thai parents to secure an international standard education for their children at fees considerably lower than that charged by private schools, without sacrificing quality.SPIP Head Nick Duggan reinforced this message, explaining to parents that all faculty of SPIP must: hold a minimum of a Bachelors degree from a recognized education institution; possess a valid teaching licence that allows them to teach in public education institutions in their home country; have at least two years teaching experience; and be native English speakers (with the exception of teaching staff teaching foreign languages).
Mr. Duggan also explained that while the majority of classes are taught in the English language, there is also a component taught in Thai to ensure Thai students attending the SPIP maintained their Thai cultural and heritage. For non-Thai students attending the SPIP alternative classes are provided during these periods to focus on Thai language as a second language. Students enrolled in the SPIP take their lessons in newly equipped classrooms featuring the latest in technological teaching aids, with class sizes dramatically smaller than those found in traditional government schools. In addition, extra-curricular reinforcement classes are provided for students who may need assistance with certain subjects to help ensure the entire class progresses at the same rate.
Featuring a modern science laboratory, a high ratio of modern, high-speed computers to students, along with a library equipped with the latest in academic and reference publications, and a five-star chef who prepares the students midday meal, the SPIP provides parents and students with a world-class education and facilities at a price considerably below that charged by education facilities offering similar programmes.More information on the SPIP can be obtained by visiting the schools website at: www.prasarnmitinternationalprogram.com or call to ask for more information about the programme at this telephone number 0-2260-9621-3 and please come to visit our second open house launching programme at 29 of January 2011 at 13.00 P.M..
