Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has renewed its partnership with Kasetsart University in Thailand. The collaboration aims to enhance the skills of students from the Department of Aerospace Engineering and today’s announcement extends the arrangement until the end of 2011.
The partnership includes a ‘Rolls-Royce (Thailand) Aerospace Award and Scholarship’, which is conferred to the winner of the annual final year aerospace competition.
Rolls-Royce will complement this financial support with lectures by executives and an educational site visit to the Group’s facility in Singapore. In addition, Rolls-Royce will assist with the development of learning materials and the provision of engine spare parts for training and development.
Ewen McDonald, Managing Director, Rolls-Royce Thailand, said: “Our first year working with Kasetsart, one of Thailand’s leading universities, has been very successful. We have met and worked with many talented engineering students. We are pleased to be able to enhance their knowledge and develop new capabilities in the Thai aerospace industry through our scholarship and support for academic programs.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr Thanya Kiatiwat, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Kasetsart University, said: “We are delighted to renew our partnership with Rolls-Royce, a leading, player in global aviation. The aerospace industry in Thailand is growing and will require a supply of talented, well trained engineers in the future. The support of a world leading engineering company such as Rolls-Royce is of significant benefit.”
Rolls-Royce equipment has been in service in Thailand since 1973. In 1996, Rolls-Royce introduced high technology aircraft engine maintenance and test capability in support of Thai Airways. In 2008 Rolls-Royce supported the King Mongkut University of Technology with a scholarship fund, development of learning materials, and an executive lecture programme.
