- The training school in Bang Yai supports DHL’s people development strategy and further strengthens DHL’s customer service standards
DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, has launched the DHL Transport Training School & Learning Center in Bang Yai, the first fully equipped logistics training school in Thailand, to train DHL staff to provide the highest standard of customer service. Initiated by DHL Supply Chain, the school will subsequently offer training for DHL Express and DHL Global Forwarding employees.
The 11-rai facility reinforces DHL’s commitment to deliver superior customer service which is an integral part of the DHL brand and business. It dedicates resources to workforce training and development to ensure that DHL employees have the skills required to exceed high customer expectations. It is also in line with First Choice, a Group-wide programme aimed at achieving organic growth through strong customer loyalty. The training programme currently covers transportation and warehouse operational simulation training courses with a strong focus on safety.
Craig Hope-Johnstone, Country Manager, DHL Supply Chain Thailand, said, “This new facility strongly reflects our commitment to be an Employer of Choice by constantly reviewing ways in which the company continues to be a place where people want to work, stay, give their best and adapt to change creatively.
“Employees’ safety is a top priority at DHL. At the DHL Training School & Learning Center in Bang Yai, we have designed the course to build knowledge and skills as well as to educate and train our employees on safety policy and procedures to ensure a safe workplace. Our ongoing objective is to prevent and reduce work-related accidents in each of our worksites nationwide.”
Initially designed to accommodate current staff from DHL Supply Chain to refresh, update or improve their skills and practices, it was later expanded to train new staff in the new job orientation. The school will later become the logistics learning hub for staff from three businesses units according to DHL global quality standard.
Vincent Yong, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Managing Director of DHL Global Forwarding Thailand, said, “The DHL Training School & Learning Center is another important step forward in our people development strategy. DHL truly believes that employees are our most valuable asset and a crucial success factor of our business.
“We realize that, in order for our employees to deliver superior results, they need effective development opportunities to grow individually and professionally. To maximize employees’ productivity and performance, we need a learning centre where employees can learn to develop existing skills and to gain new skills. With this school, we are able to further enhance the quality of our service to our customers.”
Chananyarak Phetcharat, Managing Director, DHL Express Thailand and Indochina, said, “Providing excellent service leads to customer satisfaction. At DHL, superior customer service is a core element of our service delivery and one that we value and continually invest in to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations. It is also one of the key differentiators of our business.
“The school offers training that equip our employees with knowledge and skills required to meet changing environments and to deliver great service quality to our customers and this will help us retain and increase overall customers satisfaction.”
The DHL Transport Training School & Learning Center started operating in Q4 2010. To date the school has trained over 1,500 staff. The three day training programme starts with classroom learning followed by practical training. Staff who take the transportation course start with the overview and general information including Safety Awareness Driving, Health Preparation for Work, Pre-trip Inspection, Truck knowledge Equipment, Defensive Driving Basics & Advance and Fatigue Basic Knowledge, in classroom and simulator room. The employees will also have the opportunity to learn to drive DHL trucks on the road.
Staff who take the warehouse course will learn the complete warehousing process from the general information including hazard awareness, housekeeping, security plus operations covering product marking, order picking, loading & dispatch and inventory management. Towards the end of the course, the employees will be able to gain hands-on experience in the rack room.
As part of the company’s corporate responsibility initiative, DHL plans to cooperate with related governmental organizations in the future to provide classroom learning and practical training to help increase safety awareness and driving skills among general public.
