Joining Hands to Combat Human Trafficking andLaunch OHCHR’s Commentary on the Recommended Principles and Guidelineson Human Rights and Human Trafficking
In honour of International Human Rights Day observed annually on 10 December, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Regional Office for South-East Asia is organizing an event in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Royal Thai Police and the Anti-Human Trafficking Network of non-governmental organizations, on 16 December 2010 from 9:15 to 12:00 noon to Launch OHCHR’s Commentary on the Recommended Principles and Guidelines on Human Rights and Human Trafficking.
The Recommended Principles and Guidelines have been developed in order to provide practical, rights-based policy guidance on the prevention of trafficking and the protection of victims of trafficking. The Commentary on the Recommended Principles and Guidelines on Human Rights and Human Trafficking aims at providing further concrete guidance on the prevention of human trafficking and the protection of victims of trafficking. States and intergovernmental organizations are encouraged to make use of the Principles and Guidelines, as well as the Commentary, in their own efforts to prevent trafficking and to protect the rights of trafficked persons.
This upcoming collaborative event aims at promoting the coordinated efforts of various actors involved in combating human trafficking in Thailand and the challenges they currently face in their work. The discussion will focus on the primacy of human rights in combating human trafficking, as well as the challenges that national actors currently face in combating human trafficking and protecting the rights of victims in Thailand.
The agenda of the discussion will focus on regional, national and community-based dimensions to combating human trafficking in Thailand.
