Bangkok--27 Jan--IBM The current world of information technology needs personnel with knowledge, skills, and versatility who apply this knowledge and skills in technology and other areas. The IT industry also requires innovative developers who can adapt and learn quickly, who have the initiative, apply methods of learning according to the situation and make decisions wisely to help organizations increase their business value. With this vision in mind, IBM collaborated with leading educational institutions throughout the world to establish the “Center of Excellence” (COE), to enhance the knowledge, skills, capabilities and information technology curriculum useful to the faculty, students, and staff, so as to help overcome challenges and create a Smarter Planet. Nurturing the Next Generation of IT talent The Center of Excellence is a collaboration project between IBM and academic institutions to offer programs in information technology to develop personnel with the knowledge and skills to benefit the progression of their careers. This is a project extension from the "IBM Academic Initiative”, which over 5,900 universities and colleges have joined, including those in Thailand. In this program, IBM works closely with academic institutions, government agencies, and academia to promote an exchange of knowledge, skill, technologies, and research from IBM in the various forms of support, such as educational material, training programs, curriculum, and examinations to obtain various certificates from IBM. This project will significantly contribute to Thailand’s objective of driving towards a culture of innovation. This Project will support the development of IT skills to help the students to be more competitive in the global labor market. IBM’s Center of Excellence operations The Center of Excellence gives professors and students the opportunity to learn, develop their knowledge, and enhance skills related to technology of award-winning software from IBM such as the IBM DB2, WebSphere, Lotus, Rational and Tivoli technologies; or hardware in mainframe, Power systems, or storage, and hot technologies such as cloud computing, business analytics. The project is divided into two parts - first, training and providing information to schools and teachers for their curriculum and access to technologies that meet the needs of the labor market which will enable them to apply knowledge of the IBM technology learned to use in their future profession. Secondly, the participating institution must be committed to provide a modern infrastructure and supporting system. IBM will provide support in this area by allowing free use of IBM software for learning and teaching. The Benefits of participating in this IBM Project for the institutions include: ? The opportunity to produce graduates who have been certified by IBM, enhancing their competitiveness when they begin their job search ? The opportunity to set up training rooms, and the IBM Center of Excellence (IBM CoE lab) with computers operating IBM's software for teaching and enabling a culture of IT knowledge, skills experience and innovation exchange ? The opportunity for a training faculty to teach students the latest in software and hardware technology, upgrading their standing in the workforce and global market ? The opportunity to integrate IBM's technology-related content which will be counted as school credits.
