While the management of Impact Muang Thong Thani is concerned and saddened by the riot that took place at the Thunder Dome nearby, it has pointed out that it does not manage the venue.
The riot followed the cancellation on Tuesday (February 15) of a concert by the US rock band Deftones because the band said the electrical appliances were unsafe for the band and their fans.
The managing director of Impact Exhibition and Convention Center said in a statement that Thunder Dome was loaned to the Sports Authority of Thailand in 1998 and while Impact considers Thunder Dome a ‘great neighbor in Muang Thong Thani’, there is no relationship between them.
Mr. Paul Kanjanapas said his company had received inquiries about the riot and that he wished to put the record straight. “When people think of public events in Muang Thong Thani, they think of us, because we are the biggest place for such things. However, we are not the only one. We’re sorry about what happened, but it had nothing to do with us,” he said.
Impact explained that Bangkok Land Plc built what is now called Thunder Dome as a venue for the 13th Asian Games held in Thailand in 1998. After the Games, Bangkok Land loaned the stadium, which was used for weightlifting, swimming and rugby, to the Sports Authority of Thailand for 30 years to promote sports for the young at no cost.
The Sports Authority of Thailand manages Thunder Dome, said Impact. Impact Exhibition Management Company Limited’s responsibilities include Impact Arena, Impact Exhibition Center, Convention Center and The Challenger.
IMPACT Muang Thong Thani complies 100% with ISO 22300, the international standard for the management of Trade, Exhibition and Convention Centers. And it is ready to cooperate with the safety and administrative authorities in Nonthaburi province and vicinity, such as Pakkret and Nonthaburi Police Stations and others, as well as nursing homes in Chaengwattana area and the local fire station through its Crisis Management Team.
