Thammasat University in collaboration with the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) organizes the Asia Venture Challenge 2011which will be held on 8-10 March 2010 with the prize of 570,000 baht for the winner. The winning team will be a contender from Asia to enter the global contest named “Venture Labs Investment Competition (VLIC)”. The project aims to build new entrepreneurs as well as develop potential executives in Asia in the future.
Dr Kulpatra Sirodom, the dean of Thammasat University’s Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy, reveals that this is the 6th Asia Venture Challenge which will be held on March 8-10 at Plaza Athenee Bangkok jointly by the Faculty of Commerce and Accountancy of the university and SET.
The Asia Venture Challenge 2011 is the most interesting and recognized in the region. The contest changed its name from Thammasat Asia Moot Corp to the Asia Venture Challenge to match up with the US-based VLIC which has repositioned itself as “the Super Bowl of Investment Competition” last May. Besides, the new name (Asia Venture Challenge) is used to represent reliability and fairness.
The winner will receive not only a start-up sum to begin a business but also attention from both locally and internationally well-known investors and businessmen who are either judges or the audience of the event. The contest will be a good start for a new business, and also the best opportunity for the new generation of Asians to show off their potential and entrepreneurship. It will also play important roles as a center of partnership and operators in Asia.
The contest will draw 12 teams of contenders who are pursuing their master’s degree in business administration at well-known universities in eight countries namely China, Hong Kong, India, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Each team must try to win the heart of the judges who are investors with their business plans for products and services, research, and marketing campaigns. The business plans must prove to be workable and profitable.
The VLIC will be held in May 2011 in Texas, USA. The champion will win an award of US$100,000 and ring the NASDAQ opening bell.
“To support this contest conforms to the intention of SET which aims to build and develop new entrepreneurs. They will be important mechanisms to develop the country in the future. This is also a part of corporate social responsibility (CSR) of SET which seriously focuses on educational support,” said Mr Chanitr Charnchainarong, SET Group Head-Issuer and Listing.
He continues that business planning is essential. The business plans which are worked out carefully and systematically provide entrepreneurs with directions for their businesses and pave their way to success and future growth.
