Manchester United Legends Bryan Robson and Andrew Cole will be on a mission when they travel to Bangkok (April 6), Kuala Lumpur (April 8) and Hong Kong (April 9). No longer on the hunt for goals and silverware, the players, who between them made over 700 appearances for the club, will instead be helping to raise ?1 million (approximately BHT49.85 million) for United for UNICEF and the Manchester United Foundation. The Manchester United Foundation and UNICEF Legends Charity Dinner in Association with Turkish Airlines, a gala event at the Grand Hyatt Erawan in Bangkok, will see a number of unique Manchester United items up for auction with all proceeds going to the club’s charitable projects. In addition, club partner, Hublot has donated one of its exceptional time pieces for each event. Bryan Robson Andrew Cole Manchester United Foundation Chief Executive John Shiels said, “We are thrilled to have both Bryan and Andrew join the Asian fundraising tour in support of United for UNICEF and the Manchester United Foundation. As a club, one of our greatest responsibilities is towards improving the lives of the next generation. Through our fundraising activities this year, we hope to raise ?1 million to benefit projects which have a positive impact on the health of children, through UNICEF’s work. Bryan Robson hopes to harness the passion of Manchester United’s legion of Asian fans, and inspire them to support the tour: “They’re passionate about their football — you can’t get better than Manchester United fans. We have a massive following all through Asia.” Support in each city has already been phenomenal with Manchester United partners. Turkish Airlines are title sponsors for the Bangkok and Hong Kong events, and Telekom Malaysia snapping up naming rights in Kuala Lumpur. Each gala dinner will give Manchester United fans the opportunity to meet two of Old Trafford’s greatest heroes. ‘Captain Marvel’, Bryan Robson, is the longest serving captain in the club’s history and current manager of the Thailand national team. Treble Winner, Andrew Cole is the second-highest goal-scorer in Premiership history. Since 1999, Manchester United and UNICEF’s partnership — United for UNICEF — has raised over ?2 million (approximately THB$99.7 million) for UNICEF programmes benefiting 2.2 million children and is also the longest running partnership between a football club and a global charity. United for UNICEF has benefitted children across the world, including many projects in Asia. The partnership has helped to build schools in Myanmar, reduced the impact of HIV in Vietnam and Malaysia and has protected women and children against trafficking in China.
