The strong momentum of the five-door estate segment has significantly boosted Volvo V50 sales beyond 300 units in the first year of its launch, thanks to its multipurpose and functions that best address urban drivers’ concern for design, quality and safety. Volvo will also debut the latest diesel version of its S80 line — the S80 D3 at the upcoming 2011 Bangkok International Motor Show. Priced at Bt2,699,000, the S80 D3 will help strengthen its leading market position in the luxury sedan segment. Attractive promotion packages, including light instalment payment program and special gifts, are being offered now as the market warms up towards the country’s largest auto show. One of the highlights will be the Volvo V50, our best-selling five-door estate car, and the new diesel-engine Volvo S80 D3. “Estate car is one of Volvo’s signatures. It has been on high demand all along, especially among family drivers who need flexible and multipurpose car for their daily city use and weekend leisure. Volvo V50 is the estate car that clearly demonstrates Volvo’s vision of “There’s more to life” as it offers multi-functions that enable us to enjoy many things in life waiting for us to explore. With its premium quality, the Volvo V50 has been highly successful and enjoyed high sales right after launch in the end of 2009 and the momentum remained strong throughout 2011,” said Vatanaromya. “The Volvo S80 D3 will expand our strong S80 line which currently consists of E85-capable engine. In this new version, the luxurious S80 is powered by Volvo’s outstanding diesel engine with high-performance technology that offers both power and pleasant quiet ride. The improved turbocharger’s highly efficient injection system allows for increased fuel efficiency while achieving lower emission. The diesel engine is generally 30% more economical than benzene engine, in other words, the diesel engine can produce higher power at the same amount of fuel consumed compared to benzene engine. By offering the diesel engine variant to Thai consumers, we are not only giving them a new fuel alternative but also reinforcing our leadership in environmental-friendly technology,” she added. The Volvo V50 will be available at the 2011 Bangkok International Motor Show at an attractive price of only Baht1.799 million for the 2.0lt engine model. The latest version of V50 comes in even more attractive design from head to toe, starting from the bolder new Iron Mark on the front grill, full colour-coordinated lower sill moulding as well as at the lower front and rear bumpers, roof rail in silver colour, new 16-inch aluminium wheels with 255/55 R16 tires, sport steering wheel and sport gear knob with aluminium trim. Powered by 2.0lt benzene engine, the Volvo V50 is the first benzene engine car with Powershift transmission system. Volvo’s innovative powershift transmission system offers high torque at all time, providing fun and responsive driving as well as 8% greater fuel efficiency and lower emission. The powerful engine delivers 145hp at 6,000rpm and 185Nm at 4,500rpm and is capable of running on E10 fuel. Standard in V50 is a full package of safety innovations, including the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), an exclusive technology in Volvo cars that is activate when the car travels at faster 10 kph. With this technology, the camera on the side mirrors will detect any vehicles from motorcycles upwards approaching in the blind spot area and activate the warning light on the front door pillars. Whiplash protection system (WHIPS) is integrated in the front seats and wrap around the occupants to reduce impact from whiplash when there is strong impact from the back of the car. At the same time, the back rest and head rest will move forward to provide protection of the driver and front passenger. Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS) allows driver to concentrate efficiently in critical moment. The Side Impact Protection (SIP) in the outside of the back rest of the front seats helps reducing severe injury on the chest and hip in case of side impact. Inflatable Curtain which coordinate with front airbags provide head protection for the driver and front passenger. Meanwhile, the Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC), standard in all Volvo models, helps increase stability by detecting possibility that the car would skid off and bring back balance to the car immediately. The Volvo S80 D3 will make its debut at the 2011 Bangkok International Motor Show with its latest 2lt diesel engine which produces 163hp at 3,000rpm and 400Nm at 1,400-2,850 rpm. The 6-speed automatic transmission system comes with geartronic that enables driver to shift to manual mode for maximum driving enjoyment. The luxury sedan offers warm and friendly atmosphere inside the passenger cabin with Walnut wood inlay, leather and wood steering wheel and silk matt/leather gear knob. With safety at its heart, the S80 D3 comes with a full package of safety innovation. In addition to the standard BLIS, it offers the Collision Warning with Auto Brake (CWAB) which is designed for highway driving. CWAB will activate sound alarm and light signal to warn the driver when the system detects that collision is possible. If the driver does not brake immediately, the intelligent system will prepare the braking system for immediate stop and automatically stop the car if the driver fails to stop the car in time. The system will also activate hazard light to warn the car at the back. Other safety technologies include Adaptive Cruise Control with Auto Brake that helps increase safety by keeping appropriate distance between the car and the one in front; and Distance Alert, which becomes active at speed of at least 30 kph and when Adaptive Cruise Control is in standby mode or not activated. In addition V50 and S80 D3, other Volvo models will be showcased at the 2011 Bangkok International Motor Show.
