Experiencing strong trend in the SUV segment which posted 33% growth in 2010, Volvo further advances its position in the segment with the launch of New XC60 D3 with the world’s first innovative Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake technology. The compact premium SUV plus its existing popular XC90 premium SUV will put Volvo in a good position to compete in the market while addressing consumers’ diverse needs even better.
Chantana Vatanaromya, President of Volvo Car (Thailand) Co Ltd, said, “In the past year, we have witnessed a very positive trend in the premium SUVs market. The total market sales volume was 848 units, a 33% increase over 636 units in 2009. In this segment, Volvo’s premium SUV — Volvo XC90 also enjoyed a significant growth from 95 units in 2009 to 151 units in 2010 or approximately 59% increase, which is higher than average market growth. The first lot of front wheel drive XC60, which made its debut in December, has been sold out and delivered to the client in no time. These are clear evidences that confirmed the market potential. Volvo, therefore, further grow our foothold in this market with the launch of the new XC60 D3 in this event. The new XC60 D3 offers not only high fuel efficiency but also the world’s first safety innovation “Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake”.

New XC60 D3
The New XC60 D3, launched at Bt2.99 million, is powered by 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine. Packed with the innovative “Pedestrian Detection with Full Auto Brake” technology, the car is one of the safest models on the market. The innovative technology helps detect a pedestrian in front of the car and when the system assesses that an accident is possible, it will activate the braking system and automatically stop the car. When the car travels at higher than 35 kph speed, this system will help reduce the degree of the accident.
Other innovative safety systems include “Adaptive Cruise Control with Queue Assist” which helps adjust the car speed to match with the current traffic and distance from the lead vehicle as well as automatically stops and moves the car to the traffic move; “Distance Alert” which is activated at all speed level up to 200 kph will light up the signal on the Head-Up display when the distance to the lead vehicle is shorter than the chosen; and “City Safety” which automatically stops the car when it approaches the lead vehicle too fast and is activated at below 30 kph.
The interior of the New XC60 D3 is stylish with the new premium Centre Stack. The lines on the panels and surfaces create a harmonious style. The upper display on the dash board is deleted and replaced with a new 7-inch full colour display. The High Performance Multimedia sound system can support DVD Movie Disk and Movie Media files as well as audio files (MP3/WMA/CD). The audio streaming feature enables the driver to play songs from his or her own mobile phone which is connected directly with the car stereo system via Bluetooth.
The New XC60 is powered by 2.0L commonrail diesel D3 engine. It produces maximum 163hp at 3,000 rpm and 400Nm torque at 1,400-2,850 rpm. The D3 engine offers impressive performance with high fuel efficiency and complete combustion, leading to low emission.
Full line of premium SUVs
The New XC60 will compliment Volvo’s premium SUV offering which includes the Volvo XC90. The large premium SUV is equipped with 2.4L diesel engine that produces impressive power of 185 hp at 4,000 rpm and 400Nm torque at 2,000-2,750 rpm. The vehicle is packed with many innovative technologies for good road holding. It offers pleasant ambience in the passenger cabin and ample space for conveniently accommodate five passengers. XC90 D5 was the first five plus-two seater in the category and even provides an integrated child booster seat for children and a three-way sliding middle row, plus rear seats that fold completely and unobtrusively into the floor.
In this version, XC90 comes with speed sensitive steering that helps driver control steering wheel better at higher speed. The integrated Bluetooth handsfree also frees the driver from operating mobile phone while continuing to get connected without leaving his hands from the steering wheel.
The XC90 is second to none when speaking of safety features. It comes with full pack of Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Side Impact Protection System (SIPS), Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) preventing neck and spine injuries in the event of a rear end collision, Inflatable Curtain (IC), collapsible column and many more which not only reduce risk of accident but also protect the driver and passengers during accident.
