Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd., today unveiled its “MITSUBISHI Concept Global Small”, an eco-car concept which is the all-new platform designed and built for all world markets and i-MiEV together with full line up of Mitsubishi vehicles at the 32nd Bangkok International Motor Show, Impact, Muang Thong Thani during March 25 to April 5, 2011.
Mr. Gayu Uesugi, Managing Director Head Officer of the Headquarters Product Projects & Strategy Group Headquarters in Charge of Development of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, Japan, introduced the Mitsubishi Eco-car Concept for the first time to Thai media in 32nd Bangkok International Motor Show and expressed that;
“The “Global Small” will be one of the first of a new wave of down-sized compact cars which is a next-generation compact developed around 3 principles for both emerging and developed markets, namely “Environmentally-friendly”, “Value for money” and “Handy in use”. It will be very compact at about 3.7 m., still seat 5 adults comfortably, high fuel efficiency with CO2 emission in the mid- 90 g/km in case of 1.0 liter engine for Europe market. It will conform to Thailand’s Eco-car Project, implemented by the Thai government with the objective of promoting investment in Thailand’s automobile industry and reduction of dependence on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions with the price is below 400-thousand baht.
Mitsubishi Eco-car will be produced starting from March 2012 at the third factory in Laem Chabang Industrial Estate adjacent to the first and second factories and in the same month the mass-production model will be introduced in Thailand as world premier. Initially, the production capacity of this new factory will be around the 150,000-unit per year level, and in the future it can be boosted to the 200,000-unit per year level.
The “Global Small” will be positioned as an entry model in MMC’s model lineup, and plans are to export the vehicle from Thailand to markets worldwide as a global strategic vehicle that corresponds to both market needs of emerging countries, for which demand for automobiles is expected to increase, and advanced nations, where vehicle downsizing is increasing in order to correspond to energy issues in addition to environmental awareness.
“Mitsubishi Concept Global Small” will come with an all-new generation of 1.0 liter petrol engine, featuring energy saving technologies such as: MIVEC variable valve timing, Very finely tuned aerodynamics that will also help getting emissions as low as the mid 90’s and a 100% electric version of Global Small, to be introduced in FY2013 in the market having high demand of eco-friendly vehicles.”, Mr. Uesugi mentioned.
Mr. Vigrant Amatayakul, Corporate General Manager, Office of Sales, Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd. also added about Mitsubishi Booth at Motor Show this year that other than exhibited “MITSUBISHI Concept Global Small” as a highlight, Mitsubishi Motors has also brought in i-MiEV, an electric small car and displayed a full selection of Mitsubishi vehicles ranging from Mitsubishi Lancer EX; the latest minor changed sedan coming with fascinating style, comfortable, performance and safety, Mitsubishi Triton and Pajero Sport powered by the new engine 2.5 VG Turbo — The Absolute Power and Fuel Economy with maximum output 178 PS and more tough, luxuriousinterior and utility interior, Space Wagon and CNG lineup including Lancer 1.6 L, Triton Mega Cab and the newest model “Double Cab Plus CNG”. Besides, the very special campaigns are also provided which when combined with the full lineup, the company is confident to achieve 2,000 units at this Motor Show. Other than showing the Mitsubishi Global Small and various models, this year the company is going to invite “Ananda”, the presenter of New Lancer EX and “Toon-Body Slam”, the presenter of Triton 2.5 VG Turbo to meet with customers at Mitsubishi Booth.

The “MITSUBISHI Concept Global Small “ or Eco-car is the concept model of the compact passenger vehicle that is planned for production in March of 2012 at the MMC’s new third factory in Thailand. The features of the MITSUBISHI Concept Global Small include good maneuverability and easy operation, an inherent of a compact car, accomplishing in to a highly efficient package that can comfortably seat five adults. In addition, the MITSUBISHI Concept Global Small achieves top-of-class fuel efficiency, with CO2 emissions in the mid-90g/km range due to:
- 1.0 L and 1.2L compact MIVEC engine equipped with Auto Stop & Go and the regenerative braking system
- Weight trimming to the most complex parts
- Reduced running resistance in the engine, new-generation CVT, brakes and tires
- A body shape that greatly reduces aerodynamic resistance.
