Bangkok--29 Apr--Professional Media Business Somboon Group spends 10 million baht on its Solar Car Park, which will be equipped with Sanyo’s HIT solar cells. Saving up to 100% office energy consumption annually or equivalent to emission of 34.2 tons of carbon dioxide, the cells offer highest conversion efficiency available in the market, according to Sanyo. Mr. Tsutomu Morimoto, President of Sanyo (Thailand), revealed that “Sanyo realizes that Thailand is one of Asian countries with high potential for solar cell market as government agencies, industrial sector and consumers are becoming aware of the use of alternative energy, including solar energy which is not only clean but also helps reduce global warming and CO2 emissions.” Recently Somboon Advance Technology Plc (Somboon Group) announced the installation of HIT solar cells in its Solar Car Park, which the company expects to make it a model place for the demonstration of solar cell operations. With average lifespan of 25-30 years, the 155 cells are capable of generating 190 watts per panel, or up to 30 kilowatts altogether. “Our solar cells are highly heat resistant and humidity proof thanks to the advanced manufacturing technology. On top of that, they offer 18.9% conversion efficiency, the highest available in the market currently,” said Morimoto. Talking about its targets in energy business, Sanyo believes that its partnership with Somboon Group—a leader in automotive industry with over 1,000 business networks and suppliers nationwide—will lead to increasing competency for both companies. Mr. Verayut Kitaphanich, President of Somboon Advance Technology Plc (Somboon Group), revealed that “At present, global warming has become a focus worldwide and is becoming more severe. Aiming to reduce global warming, the company is shifting to the use of alternative energy under the Green Factory concept, which we believe will be beneficial in three aspects namely environment, CSR and cost reduction for increasing competency. “We recognize that Sanyo (Thailand) is the leader of solar cell innovation. Sanyo’s solar cells offer 18.9% conversion efficiency, the highest available in the market currently, while those of other makers offer only 7-14% efficiency. This makes Sanyo’s cells the best solution for our needs,” said Verayut Somboon Group will be spending 10 million baht on installing the solar cells in the area of 500 m2 in front of its factory, which will be used as Solar Car Park. The generated power will be supplied to lighting equipments and office appliances as well as testing equipments in the R&D center. In addition, Somboon Group is studying the feasibility of solar cell installation at its plant in Rayong province, which shall be concluded soon. The company is also studying the using of several kinds of alternative energy including solar power, wind power, hydropower and bio-energy as it recognizes potential growth in the business. Targeting at industrial plants and offices, the company, with strong distribution channels, believes that further partnership with Sanyo will be beneficial for the country’s industrial sector, particularly in reducing global warming problem.
