Philips Electronics (NYSE:PHG, AEX:PHI) a leading health and wellbeing company, together with Ministry of Works, today launched the start of a 63.1 km stretch of highway project, including the roads leading to Subang Airport, Federal Highway and Middle Ring Road 2,using Philips LED road lighting technology. This project is the latest in Asia for Philips Lighting in illuminating the streets of cities in a sustainable manner with green road lighting.
The primary task of the government is to create beautiful and livable environments that are safe and comfortable to live and work in, while being responsible towards the planet and to future generations. LEDs have opened up a whole new world of possibilities for lighting as they are highly-efficient, long-lasting and environmentally-friendly.
The contract between Philips and Ministry of Works is a progressive milestone to help realize the government’s plan to accelerate the implementation of energy-efficient initiatives. The plan ensures urban areas are vibrant and livable while enhancing Malaysian’s confidence in public safety as part of the 10th Malaysia Plan.
Philips LED road lighting technology is able to save more than 50% in terms of energy consumption while cutting in its emission of carbon emission by more than 50%. This is just one initiative towards creating a greener future in line with Malaysia’s Prime Minister’s agenda to cope with global warming.
Yang Berhormat Dato' Shaziman Bin Abu Mansor, Minister of Works, Malaysia, who was present during the official launch at Subang Airport Terminal Road said, “We have selected to work with the world’s leading lighting company because Philips continuously strive to create a greener future for our cities by using advanced technology while safeguarding our future through sustainable development.”

Philips has been responsible for lighting numerous landmark projects across Asia including the KLCC twin tower in Malaysia, the Singapore Flyer in Singapore, Bhumibol Bridge connecting southern Bangkok with Samut Prakan Province in Thailand, Power Monument in the Philippines, Hangzhou Canal in China, Stonecutters Bridge in Hong Kong, Ci-Shan Bridge in Taiwan, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Fa?ade in India, and Christchurch International Airport Tower in New Zealand.
