Toyota expects another wave of growth in 2011with sales of 900,000 units, 12.4% increase
Mr. Kyoichi Tanada, President of Toyota Motor Thailand Co.,Ltd. has presided over the 2011 Half Year Press Conference to report the January to June 2011 car sales performance was 432,012 units, increase by 21.1%. The car market in 2011 is adjusted to be projected to grow by 12.4% to 900,000 units.
Mr. Tanada said “Although the post-tsunami scenario resulted in manufacturing lapses for Japanese carmakers, the recovery was sooner than expected thanks to full cooperation and support from all concerned parties. In addition, the normalization was the contribution by greater demands of the market. The first half year sales demonstrate a new record in auto market with 21.1% increase, compare to the previous year. The growth is classified into that of 17.2% rise in commercial vehicles and 26.3% in passenger cars. The continuous growth of auto market is tremendously seen in the one-ton pickup segment that has dramatically soared. Furthermore, a stimulus is contributed by new model launches that render the incessantly rising demand in the passenger car market. From the first quarter of 2011, we could see the continual growth and greater stability of the overall economic. The production capability of overall automotive industry is at 820,000 units.”

“Toyota’s first half year sales illustrates the growth of 8.0%, or 36.2% market share, with the trend to see 3.2% decrease in commercial vehicles and the increase by 22.7% in passenger car segment.”

With regard to 2011 half year car sales, Toyota was affected by the Tsunami. CBU exported about 136,074 units which is 17.1% decrease compared to the previous year, valued at 57,409 millions baht. Besides, OEM exported worth 24,435 millions baht and the overall income contributed to the country was 81,844 million baht.”
Regarding the trend of the automotive industry in 2011, Mr.Tanada stated “Thanks to increasing demands and the launch of several automobile manufacturers, we have foreseen the market trend and projection of our sales volume this year that the growth of the automotive market this year is expected to be at about 900,000 vehicles or 12.4% increase, in which can be segmented to passenger cars about 410,000 units, while commercial vehicles about 490,000 units, with the total production of auto industry about 1.8 million units.
Toyota has still put a great emphasis on pickup truck segment as Thailand Product Champion that contributes advantages from domestic agriculture industry has recovered, good price and resulted into increasing purchase power of customers including higher demands from overseas market.”

Mr. Tanada added “In 2011 Toyota’s sales target is projected to be approximately 360,000 units divided into passenger cars around 167,500 units and commercial vehicle around 192,500 units in which is about 181,000 units of 1-ton pickup.”

“For export market, we target to export CBU around 328,800 units, or 2% decrease, equivalent to 136,000 millions baht, and OEM valued at 53,000 millions baht, the total numbers of export value is estimated to 189,000 millions baht. The main reason of the decrease is contributed by post-Tsunami impacts during the first half year”
“Additionally, in order to respond continuously rising demands of customers, TMT will expand the production capability by enhancing manufacturing efficiency through the faster of takt time in all three assembly plants. Currently, Samrong plant made a best record with 56 seconds/unit which is on the top rank of all Toyota plants worldwide. Moreover, the expansion of production capability from 140,000 units to 220,000 units at Ban Pho plant has been planned to commence in September 2011.” Mr. Tanada concluded.
