Dance of Emptiness
Dhamma Talk Series 2011
At the Dance Centre, School of Performing Arts
Capitol Club, Sukhumvit 24
English speakers are invited to a series of smart lectures on ‘Buddhism: the meditation and philosophy’ Monday evenings 6:30-8:15pm from August 8th to September 26th.
Talks are hosted free of charge by the Dance Centre, Sukhumvit 24.
While Buddhism began with forest renunciates 2500 years ago, it has long since out grown its roots, and become integrated with the Arts in many forms. The glittering monasteries, temple murals, song, dance and literature all have become expressions of something essential in Human experience.
“The Arts and Dhamma have a common ground”, says Dance Centre owner and teacher Khun Vararom Pachimsawat, “you need a high degree of focus and discipline, and an essential wareness of your mind and body in the present moment.”
While Art can be taught, getting into the ‘zone’ from which true creativity spring is harder to explain or describe. This is where Dhamma comes in — Buddhism teaches a method of emptying out the mind, which leaves the heart free to express itself.
Hence ‘The Dance of Emptiness’ — this year’s Dhamma Talk Series with one of Thailand’s few experienced Western Buddhist Monks, Pandit Bhikkhu. Those who have attended in previous years will know this speaker has a light and non-dogmatic style. Conveniently hosted in the Dance Centre newcomers should feel well at ease exploring some finer points of the Buddhist philosophy that is so striking in SE Asia.
