Rolls-Royce Opens Regional Training Centre at Singapore’s Seletar Aerospace Park

Bangkok--3 Aug--Hill & Knowlton The Group’s first training facility in Asia will contribute to skills and talent development in the region Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, today announced the opening of a Regional Training Centre (RTC) in Singapore to provide world-class, accredited training for customers and employees across Asia. The RTC is the first section of the S$700m Rolls-Royce Seletar Campus to be opened. Through the RTC, Rolls-Royce will help to develop the talent pool the company and its customers require, while promoting a culture of engineering excellence in Asia. Specifically, the RTC is equipped to deliver a broad spectrum of learning, from IT to management and leadership, as well as technical skills across all Rolls-Royce business sectors of Civil, and Defence Aerospace, Marine and Energy. The first technicians will graduate from the RTC in September, taking up new roles in the new Seletar Assembly and Test Unit (SATU). Jonathan Asherson, Rolls-Royce, Regional Director, Southeast Asia, said: “This is an important milestone for Rolls-Royce as we increase our capacity and capability to meet the growing needs of our global customer base. We are investing significantly to develop our presence in Singapore and today marks the first stage of our new, state of the art, Seletar facility coming on stream. The Regional Training Centre combines the latest technology, equipment and facilities, and customers in the region will now, for the first time, be able to access our world class training right at their doorsteps.” Bob Blenkinsop, Rolls-Royce, Director of Resourcing, Organisation and People Development said: “Rolls-Royce takes training and development very seriously and has an extensive global programme for customers and employees. It is exciting to be opening a training centre in Singapore, to complement the others we have in the USA and UK. This is a fast growing region and now customers and employees will no longer have to travel to Europe or the US to access the world-class training facilities which we now have here.” A benchmark in training standards, the RTC is a European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part-147 approved training centre, as well as Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) Approved Training Organisation, offering international and national accreditation to trainees. Rolls-Royce has been working with Singapore’s National Trade Union Congress’ e2i (Employment and Employability Institute) and the Singapore Workforce Development Agency, to develop training and qualifications to support the aerospace industry as it continues to develop in the region. The firm and announced order book stood at ?59.2 billion at December 2010, providing visibility of future levels of activity. 6. Singapore is a key business hub for the Group. It is home to the global headquarters of the Group’s Marine business and the regional headquarters of its Asia Pacific Energy business. The Group’s Procurement office is also located in Singapore and handles the management of suppliers in South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, India and South East Asia. 7. Rolls-Royce has established a number of highly successful joint venture partnerships in Singapore, primarily with Singapore Airlines Engineering Company Limited (SIAEC). These include Singapore Aero Engine Services Limited (SAESL) and International Engine Components Overhaul (IECO), both of which provide services to major regional and global carriers. 8. The RTC is the first part of the Rolls-Royce Seletar campus to open. The campus will also comprise a Trent aero engine assembly and test facility, a wide chord fan blade (WCFB) manufacturing facility as well as an Advanced Technology Centre (ATC), an integral part of the Rolls-Royce global network for technology research.
