MCOT showed their potentiality to be the host country of ABU Robocon 2011 and joined hands to encourage Thai students in the Contest with 17 countries on 28 August 2011 at The Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani.
After the Thailand ABU Robocon contest was arranged for 2011 Winner Award to select the representative team to join the contest in ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest with the students from other countries on the annual basis, Thailand was chosen to be the host country of the contest this year. We would like to invite you to join in cheering our two representative teams of Thailand which are “Look Chao Mae Klong Prapa The Limited” from the Dhurakij Pundit University, Thailand Champion and “Soom Kor” from Kam Phaeng Petch Technology College, the runner-up in order to be the winner of the 10th ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest on 28 August 2011 at The Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani and the live transmission at 14.15 — 17.00 hrs. on Modern Nine Television.
Mr. Pornchai Piyakesin , Vice President — Television Group of MCOT Public Company Limited cited that Modernine Television station is one of the members of the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union — ABU and also the representative of the Thai TV Pool who take turn in hosting the ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest or ABU Robocon and have sent representative teams from Thailand to participate in the contest activities with other countries on the annual basis since 2002.
“The Robot Contest is regarded as the high technology of the various types in developing technologies in corporation with the role of MCOT as a communicative organization which constantly develop communicating technology. Therefore, the major activities of the company to drive the CSR project emphasize on the more distinguishing image of “Intellectual Society” in MCOT including the creating of the modern image of the organization in the area of innovation promotion.”
On the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of The ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest or ABU Robocon 2011, Thailand was honored to be the host country, we, therefore would like to present our beautiful Loy Krathong Culture which some part of it is applied to mix with the modern technology, a robot as the theme of the contest “Lighting Happiness with Friendship” or whoever wins his own heart and the others’ will be the winner forever - which is the main objective of this contest.
This year, the young teams who represent 18 countries: Brunei, China, Egypt, Fiji, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Russia, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Vietnam and Thailand, except for Laos and Russia who have just participated in the contest for the first time, are going to come and join in the contest. Each country can send 1 representative team while the host country can send 2 teams which then makes 19 teams altogether. Each team will include 3 students and 1 academic advisor. However, the team must be from the same University/Vocational School. Our 2 teams from Thailand are “Look Chao Mae Klong Prapa The Limited” from Dhuraki Pundit University, Thailand Champion for 3 years consecutively. The members of the team are Mr. Nam Petch Sukkaem, Mr. Supreecha Moey Peng, Mr. Chakraphing Pheng Chaemchaeng and Dr. Narongdej Kiratipranon, the academic advisor and “Soom Kor” from Kam Phaeng Petch Technical College the runner-up of Thailand Champion with the members, Mr. Prasert Samathakhetkarn, Mr. Nakhorn Khui Sri, Mr. Wutthichai Tis Krathok and Teacher Bandit Ok Maen, the academic advisor.
Associate Professor Dr. Chit Lao Wattana, Chairman of The ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest task force management mentioned about the readiness of the 2 Thailand representative teams that each team invented 3 new robots with the sponsorship from MCOT at 500,000 Baht and they were already presented to the committee together with every country on the 25 July and now they are during the last curve training for the international championship as scheduled on the coming 28 August.
Besides, both of the teams disclosed that they also joined with other universities in order to develop the robots. The Dhurakij Pandit University cooperated with The Bangkok University and the Kam Phaeng Petch Vocational School cooperated with the King Mongkut’s University of Technology. Thus, enable them to develop the high capacity of the robots no less than the ones from our competent competitors like China and Japan especially in timing statistic. At the moment, Dhurakij Pundit University revealed that the best time we can achieve in each game is 45-50 seconds.
