conclusion of UN expert on trafficking's fact-finding mission to Thailand

Bangkok--22 Aug--UN Following the conclusion of the mission to Thailand of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons, especially women and children, Ms. Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, she will be holding a press conference on Friday 19 August from 11am to 12 noon at Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At the press conference, the Special Rapporteur will talk about her visit to Thailand, which began on 8 August, to examine the impact of anti-trafficking measures in the country. During her mission, the Special Rapporteur visited Chiang Mai, Mae Sot, Samut Sakhon, Songkhla as well as Bangkok where she met representatives of the Government and the judiciary, members of international and civil society organizations working on the fight against trafficking in persons as well as trafficked persons themselves. During the press conference, the Special Rapporteur will discuss some of her initial conclusions on the progress and remaining challenges Thailand faces in the fight against trafficking in persons prior to the submission of her country report to the Human Rights Council in Geneva in June 2012. The press conference will be held in the Narathip Auditorium, Ministry of Foreign Affairs building, Sri Ayudhya Road, Bangkok.
