Thai Glass Industries PCL (TGI) is celebrating 60 years of success and entering its 61st year as the largest manufacturer and marketer of glass packaging in South East Asia by expanding its market base, cooperating with global partner for state-of-the-art production technology to achieve competitive production cost and meet customers’ demand in various industries such as food, beverage, health drinks, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, as well as underlining its commitment to developing lasting partnerships with customers across the region. TGI expects sales to grow 14 per cent to 8,600 million baht by the end of this year.
Mr. Aswin Techajareonvikul, President of Berli Jucker Public Co., Ltd (BJC), one of the country’s largest conglomerates which holds 98 per cent of TGI’s shares, and Chairman of TGI said “TGI was established since 1951 as the first automated glass manufacturer in Thailand. Back then there were very few joint-ventures between Thai and foreign companies. With facilitation and equity participation by the Crown Property Bureau, TGI was regarded as an industrial pioneer and one of Thailand’s earliest foreign joint-venture. The company has built a commanding presence in the glass industry over the past 60 years with current production capacity of over 2,400 tons per day and strong domestic and international customer base.”
Year 2010 was one of an important milestone of glass packaging business of BJC when BJC and Owens-Illinois, Inc. (NYSE: OI), the world largest glass packaging manufacturer, jointly acquired Malaya Glass Products Sdn Bhd, which operates glass container manufacturing plants in Thailand, China, Malaysia and Vietnam. The acquisition transforms BJC into the largest manufacturer and marketer of glass packaging in South East Asia with
production capacity increasing from 2,400 to 3,300 tons per day and operations in 5 plants.”
During the first half of this year, TGI’s sales of glass packaging business in Thailand was 4,300 million baht. TGI’s sales in March 2011 reached the highest sales record in 60 years. Including production and distribution facilities in other countries under BJC, total sales of BJC’s glass packaging business is expected to reach 12,300 million baht for year 2011.
