Recently, Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd., has hosted a dinner reception to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Erawan, the first commercial gas field in the Gulf of Thailand. Chevron executives, including Joe Geagea (4th left), Managing Director of Chevron Asia South Ltd., Pierre Breber (3rd right), Deputy Managing Director of Chevron Asia South Ltd., and Pairoj Kaweeyanun (left), President of Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd., hosted the event at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Bangkok. To an honor of the evening, Dr. Kurujit Nakornthap (4th right), Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, and Dr. Songpope Polachan (2nd left), Director-General of the Department of Mineral Fuels, attended the celebration. Also joining the celebration were energy industry’s leading executives such as Dr. Pailin Chuchottaworn (right), Chief Operating Officer of Upstream Petroleum and Gas Business Group, PTT Public Company Limited, Dr. Tongchat Hongladaromp (3rd left), Senior Advisor to PTT Public Company Limited, and Yoshiyuki Kagawa (2nd right), President and CEO of Mitsui Oil Exploration Co., Ltd.
The August 17, 1981 is the historical date of maiden gas production from the Gulf of Thailand. The natural gas from Erawan has fueled Thailand’s economic growth and ushered the modern lifestyle for Thais with affordable domestic energy resource for three decades. The first commercial gas field, Erawan implies “great strength” which truly reflects its continuous contributions as a significant energy source to the country’s development.
