Bangkok--24 Aug--Verve
TMB and ING Banking Asia are inspiring people not only to run, but to run more effectively. For the second consecutive year, the TMB ING Parkrun will be the only mini-marathon in Thailand that is routed through three major parks. What makes this year’s event different is the incorporation of specially-selected music throughout the marathon that challenges participants to Make THE Difference by running at a faster pace. As added incentive for runners to make it to the finish-line, TMB and ING will be bringing together on stage for the very first time, NUVO and Jetset’er to perform their music in a joint concert.
Mr. Boontuck Wungcharoen, TMB CEO, said, “Studies show that music can greatly improve respiration and heart rate, physical strength, endurance, rhythm as well as increase the number of steps per minute of a runner (Kravitz, L. 1994). Through the use of music, this year’s TMB ING Parkrun is specifically designed to inspire runners to individually Make THE Difference. We hope that the new format of TMB ING Parkrun will help active runners perform even better in addition to inspiring people who do not typically exercise, to challenge themselves to give it a try through a fun, collective experience.”
Scheduled for 25 September 2011, the route for TMB ING Parkrun 2011 will cover Bangkok’s three adjacent public parks — Chatuchak Park, Wachirabenchatat Park (Suan Rot Fai) and Queen Sirikit Park. Sound systems will be installed along the planned routes, broadcasting specially-selected music as an enhancement while participants walk and run through the beautiful parks.
Mr. Vaughn Richtor, CEO of ING Banking Asia, “There are many synergies between ING and TMB, and that is one of the many reasons why the chemistry between ING and TMB as well as the partnership is so strong. Like TMB, ING also supports and encourages running as a sport. We leverage running as a way to get people motivated at an early age to live healthy lifestyles. Similarly, TMB ING Parkrun challenges and encourages individuals, particularly those who do not exercise regularly, to change from a sedentary lifestyle to a more active one. This mini-marathon is designed with a specific focus to show that each individual has the power to Make THE Difference. And, that difference starts with ‘YOU’,” emphasized Mr. Richtor.
Showing their support for the initiative, Ms. Wathida Chumsai Na Ayutthaya and Ms. Thip Chantarubeksa, two young celebrities, are among the first group of people who signed up to undertake their first mini-marathon challenge at the TMB ING Parkrun.
TMB ING ParkRun 2011 on 25 September 2011 offers three categories of race — 2 kilometer walk, 4 and 10.5 kilometer run. Interested and new runners may register to join at TMB Head Office and Siam Paragon branch at an application fee of 250 baht per person, inclusive of a complimented T-shirt. All proceeds from this event will go to the Chaipattana Foundation to mark His Majesty The King’s 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary.
