Horti ASIA 2012: International Tradeshow for Horticultural and Floricultural Production and Processing Technology11 private and public sectors including Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Department of Export Promotion, Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau, and other associations cooperate to organize Horti ASIA 2012 in order to present the progress of technology and new innovations for supporting agriculturists, entrepreneurs, and traders in the region. This is to encourage them to be prompt for the competition and to promote Thailand as a hub of horticultural and floricultural industry in ASEAN.
Mr. Soopachai Barnpubtong, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, said Thailand is one of the largest countries where horticultural and floricultural products are exported to the world. This export is expected to increase at around 10% or USD 826.23 million in 2011. In addition, the export figures in January 2011 was equivalent to 102,205 tons valued at USD 66.63 million, which increased more than 46.57% compared to the same period last year. It is calculated at 0.4% of total export value of the country.
Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives together with Department of Export Promotion, Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), and other 11 private and public sectors will have a full support for Horti ASIA 2012: International Tradeshow for Horticultural and Floricultural Production and Processing Technology during 9-11 May 2012 at BITEC in Bangkok. This is to promote and support the horticultural industry which grows rapidly around the region. Furthermore, it also promotes Thailand to be a trading center of the horticultural and floricultural industry in ASEAN.
Mrs. Supawan Teerarat, Exhibitions Director,Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau or TCEB, said that TCEB is the governmental company under supervision of Office of the Prime Minister. Missions of organization are to promote convention and exhibition industry of Thailand to be key economic driver, as well as to support Thailand as regional hub of international exhibition in ASEAN. Horti ASIA 2012 is one of the events that promote image of Thailand as the leading producer and exporter of quality vegetables, fruits, flowers, and orchids that meet global standard. TCEB strongly supports this event in terms of domestic marketing activities and promotions to attract international participants such as Be My Guest program that facilitates accommodation for main foreign buyers, involve in marketing and public relation activities of ASEAN Plus 6 which is the main target group. To be well prepared and promote ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, TCEB, as representative of government sec tor, supports decoration of national pavillion for governmental organization in ASEAN Plus 6 group, and facilitate custom procedures for imported exhibition products. Moreover, TCEB also provides FAST Track service for business participants of this event at airport to ensure smooth immigration processes at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
Mrs. Pattada Samakkee, Thai Fruit & Vegetable Producer Association, said that if Thailand will become the center or hub of trading fruits and vegetables in ASEAN, this type of business will be changed drastically due to various advantages of Thailand. It will be more progressive should the governmental and private section constantly support, for example, in the case of Horti ASIA 2012, which will be held in Thailand for the first time.
Mr. Jade Meyanyieam, President, Thai Orchids Co., Ltd said that the ornamental and foliage plants industry of Thailand still has a great opportunity as a result of the high demand in the market while the export, particularly orchids, has few competitors in the market. Even if other countries also plant their own orchids, the production is still in rather low level with scarce technologies. The market opportunity still always opens for the new investors.
Mrs. Ladda Mongkolchaivivat, General Manager, N.C.C. Exhibition Organizer Co., Ltd. or NEO, as the organizer of this event reveals that, persons interested in this business will have a chance to meet with global entrepreneurs of this industry. There will be more than 100 companies joining and exhibiting in booths. Visitors will find technologies in plants breeding, propagating, including seeds, and seeds development, cultivation technology, maintenance technology, transportation, freezing, packaging, processing, labeling, agriculturists, manufacturers, distributors and suppliers of products, and greenhouse equipment. Furthermore, there will be an introduction of the progress of new technologies and innovations, as well as, seminars which support agriculturists, entrepreneurs, and operators in the region to be prompt for the competition sustainably.
