Mazda Sales (Thailand) Co. Ltd., the sole distributor of Mazda vehicles in Thailand, is enjoying continued popularity for the Mazda2 subcompact after introducing the facelift version recently. This has elevated the Mazda2 to the best value position within the B-segment with the large number of added features targeted to please sporty car buyers. As a result, Mazda’s August sales rocketed, with 2,460 units of the New Mazda2 Sports, 5 doors - Hatchback and New Mazda2 Elegance, 4 doors — Sedan, being sold, rising by almost 40 percent compared to the corresponding month last year. Mazda is planning to compete strongly on both passenger car and pickup market during the last four months of the year and hopes to achieve total sales of 42,000 units.
Mr. Choichi Yuki, Managing Director of Mazda Sales (Thailand) Co. Ltd., said, “After the situation returned to normal, especially the political issues, the country’s economy starts to move ahead once again. The lowering of the fuel prices has a direct effect with passenger cars and pickup trucks, and the first car buyer policy that is being discussed will also play an important role to Thai auto industry. We believe government policy must be practical as well as create an equal opportunity to Thai people. Customers will enjoy full benefits when they have the right to choose.
“In the last four months of this year, Mazda is preparing a large number of marketing activities and promotions, along with introduction of new and special edition for passenger car and pickup truck models, as well as sales campaigns to thank our customers for their support. We will concentrate on activities that directly reach the customer groups in order to achieve our 42,000-unit sales target, which is 20 percent higher than last year,” Mr. Yuki added.
He said after the Mazda2 Freshening 2011 has been introduced to market with a pack of upgraded specifications, perceived value is much higher than other competitors. The changes were tangible and customer response was instantaneous. This has enabled Mazda to grow in sales despite being in the low season for auto sales. Sales of Mazda vehicles have been growing continuously, and in August, the company sold a total of 3,900 vehicles. This is made up of 2,460 Mazda2 cars, up 39 percent compared to the same month last year, 486 units of the new Mazda3 2.0 and Mazda3 1.6-liter model, 950 units of the BT-50 (up 50 percent), 3 units of the MX-5 roadster and one unit of the CX-9 luxurious sports crossover.

Sureetip added that the fuel economy challenge where only one tank of fuel (43 liters) was required to propel the Mazda2 for 919kms from Bangkok to Phuket was highly successful and received tremendous response.
