The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), joining with the College of Music, Mahidol University, will hold the 15th Settrade Youth Music Competition to select the best musician among youth, aiming to encourage and promote the talent and performance of youth in music, all as a SET corporate social responsibility project.
The contest is a stage for youth who want to showcase their creative talent. It also an inspiration for them to use music as a tool to improve their ability in the field and develop themselves towards the international stage, SET President Charamporn Jotikasthira noted.
“Youth is the key foundation of the country. Apart from a basic knowledge for living, youth should know music as a skill to help develop their creativity. Joining the competition will help participants practice their patience and concentration, boost confidence and express themselves in a socially beneficial way. These eventually will increase the number of persons with quality in society,” Charamporn said.
Sugree Chroensook, contest chairman and Dean of the College of Music, Mahidol University, said: “The competition is a channel to examine the quality of music education in our society and tell where excellent music teachers are and what the musical talents of both teachers and students are. Importantly, it helps give chances for music lovers to learn from, accept and admire each other.”
The competition, with scholarships and prizes worth THB 800,000, is for youth not over 25 years old, and be a student at the primary through university levels. Interested contestants can apply from now to the end of October by sending a CD with their live performance without sound editing. Competitors are only allowed to use unplugged Thai and international music instruments.
