Bangkok--16 Sep--Bangkok Art and Culture Centre exhibition Let’s Panic Organized by Bangkok Art and Culture Centre in collaboration with Design For Disasters October 20th — November 25th, 2011 8th Floor, Bangkok Arts and Culture Centre Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC), in collaboration with the Design for Disasters network environment and its alarming transformations through eyes of 15 artists and designers. Among today’s troubling phenomenon, one of the biggest problems we are facing is climate change. As the world weather faces harsh and devastating turbulence, Thailand too faces changes. Cycle in seasons begins to differ and natural disasters as floods and landslides occurring more and more, with this situation, it is critical for us to understand, in order to adapt and handle a possible disaster that could happen in the near future. Conscience of possibility for catastrophes along with needed preparation is everyone’s responsibility. As such, Let’s Panic exhibition is a model of circumstances projecting through art and design applying imagination and creativity to various conditions of what could happen if Bangkok was to face a major natural disaster. Through imagining of a never-ending torrent of rain that sinks the entire city resulting in situations of having to flee or surviving on decreasing amount of food and deadly widespread epidemics, the artists must find light at the end of the tunnel that could be the answers. The participating artists and designers have channeled a variety of ideas to create atmosphere, emotions, and feelings causing by concepts of such a grim future. All in all, the exhibition is an exchange of knowledge and information aimed at creating awareness and action that will contribute to public awareness towards conserving and sustaining our environment.
