Bangkok--22 Sep--PTT
PTT joins hands with Mitsubishi Motors Thailand to evaluate efficiency and performance of new generation Mitsubishi i-MiEV eco-friendly electric car with the expectation to encourage alternative energy usage, and the first-in-Thailand pilot charging station constructed by the end of this year.
Mr Chaicharearn Atibaedya, Executive Vice President , PTT Research and Technology Institute, PTT Public Company Limited (PTT), together with Mr. Nobuyuki Murahashi, President, Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co.,Ltd. (MMTh) signed “Memorandum of Understanding on Collaborative Research of Technical Evaluation of Electric Vehicle and Charger” at the Board Meeting Room, 23rd Floor, Building 1, PTT Head Office.
Mr. Chaicharearn stated that PTT and MMTh have been joining forces on the research project in the hope that such a drive will make the introduction of alternative energy in the form of electricity and its wide-scale use through electric vehicles (EV), happen in Thailand within the next 3-5 years, leading to the effective reduction of fuel consumption and air pollution. This collaborative feasibility aims to study technical evaluation of eco-friendly electric vehicle Mitsubishi i-MiEV and charger, focusing on energy consumption, practical use in Thailand and driving range per charge, Moreover, PTT is going to construct the first-in-Thailand pilot charging station for EV at PTT Research and Technology Institute, Wang Noi, Ayutthaya by the end of this year.
The collaboration between these two strategic partners helps promote the national scale of alternative energy usage in the form of electricity with well-established infrastructure. That contributes to the sustainable and efficient in well-to-wheel green energy use in Thailand’s transport sector which can meet zero tailpipe emission while minimizing noise pollution.
Mr. Murahashi added that “Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has been continuously emphasizing on research and development of electric vehicles more than 40 years. Energy securities, against environment pollution and against global warming are the key factors ofi-MiEV development concept. Currently, Mitsubishi i-MiEVs are produced and sold out not only in Japan but also in Europe and other countries around the globe. And will soon be available in North America.Such a collaborative research has been conducting for preparation of facilities with other government authorities over 10 countries globally. “Today the collaborative research between PTT and Mitsubishi Motors Thailand, is one of the essential movement towards the new era of EV in Thailand as the society of environment consciousness as well as a step ahead of Thailand Automotive Industry in the near future”. cited Mr. Murahashi.
