The word NANTA means “ to strike relentlessly “ in Korean. It’s also the name of Korea’s first non-verbal performance, a story told with sound and movement only, integrating Korean traditional SAMULNORI tempo with a western performance style.
About NANTA
A Non-verbal performance integrates Korea’s traditional rhythm, comedy, and drama in the kitchen. The first performance of the world famous non-verbal performance started in October 1997, and goes worldwide in 1999 at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival which they also received the award for best performance. During February 2004, for the first time in Asia, it held at Broadway, New York and also considered to be the first performance that opened a new page in Korea’s cultural history. Over 4,000,000 people around the world are enjoying NANTA. It was awarded the Best Urban Program in 2009.
Synopsis
An excellent cook, but the unmanly Head Chef, a very tough, masculine Sexy Guy, and the sexy cook, Hot Sauce! The three interesting characteristic chefs start their day. Washing vegetable, carrying the meat loafs, setting fire; cooks at NANTA kitchen are about to begin their busy job as always, then the ill manager orders them to prepare 10 wedding ceremony menus, along with his nephew, in just one hour. Suddenly the kitchen is thrown into chaos and the cooks become wild as they chop, beat and stir in order to meet the deadline. The wedding ceremony is at 6 o’clock and it is at hand! Will the NANTA cooks complete the preparation on time?
Character
Manager : He is an egotistic restaurant manager who considers only one’s interests.
Head chef : A fainthearted leader of the cooks in Song’s kitchen. A great leader who can lead the team to cooperate and perform the fantastic cooking even though they were caught off-guard
Hot source : A sassy girl, the only female cook in NANTA, gets an attention from guys, especially, love from Sexy Guy and Nephew’s crush.
Sexy guy : A sexy and muscular guy turns into an adorable guy when around Hot Sauce.
Nephew : A trouble maker in NANTA kitchen, the Manager’s Nephew.
