Thai bourse to hold 2011 financial competition for youth

Bangkok--17 Oct--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), together with Kasikornbank plc, Muang Thai Life Assurance Co., Ltd, and PTT plc, will hold Young Financial Star Competition 2011 (YFS 2011) to choose a champion new young financier among university students not over 25 years of age. This year’s event will focus on increasing financial skills in terms of management, planning and investing efficiently in order to prepare participants for careers in the capital market. Students can win scholarships and overseas training programs worth about THB 4 million. (approx. USD 128,000). “Over the past eight years, the SET and its alliance partners have held activities in theoretical and practical terms to promote learning in finance, investment and insurance, as well as to cultivate the concept of participation in social and community responsibilities to more than 24,000 students. These activities helped create quality financiers in the securities business, which will result in long-term capital market development,” said Punsak Vejanurug, SET Executive Director, Market Education Center. The YFS 2011 attracted more than 5,000 applicants. Of that number, 346 students have passed the first round. They will participate in training courses, practice tests in the next rounds, and join other activities to enhance their understanding and learn about careers in the financial market. The program starts from October 2011 to January 2012. In addition to the four alliance partners mentioned above, YFS 2011 is supported by Association of Securities Companies, Thai Financial Planner Association, Thailand Securities Institute, and The Capital Market Development Fund Foundation.
