Bangkok--18 Oct--Spark Communications Economy’s resilience set to be key factor in attracting new wave of investors Oxford Business Group (OBG), the global publishing, research and consultancy firm, has named the team that will spearhead its latest project on Thailand’s economic development and investment opportunities. Anne Schlagel will lead operations in Thailand as OBG’s newly-appointed Country Director together with Alex Gordy who has been handed the role of Editorial Manager for the second consecutive year. The team will oversee the groundwork and compilation of business intelligence for The Report: Thailand 2012 which marks OBG’s third publication on the country’s economy and will be produced in partnership with the Board of Investment (BOI). Schlagel said she was delighted to be playing a key role on OBG’s new project which is expected to provide in-depth analysis of the country’s drive to diversify its economy and step up efforts to attract investment. “The resilience demonstrated by Thailand’s economy during difficult times, which has been noted by investors, should bolster the country’s bid to increase growth,” she said. “I look forward to meeting the business leaders and politicians who will be instrumental in shaping Thailand’s future as we prepare to document these exciting developments in our 2012 report.” Gordy agreed that a combination of ongoing reforms and major projects across Thailand had brought a new wave of confidence to the markets. “Thailand has worked to boost exports and is driving growth in key sectors such as manufacturing and tourism, while reforms are also boosting activity at the stock exchange,” he said. “Our new report is set to reflect Thailand’s bid to build on these important achievements as it looks to attract new investors for these pivotal areas of economic development.” Schlagel moves to Thailand from Sarawak where she played a key role as Project Manager on OBG’s recently-published report covering the Malaysian state’s economy. Before joining the Group, she carved out a career in Project Management which has taken her across Europe and the US. OBG’s 2012 report marks a second year in Thailand for Gordy, who has a background in political and economic journalism. During his time with the Group, Gordy has led the editorial and research team on a number of projects across the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Africa. Laura Herrero, OBG’s Regional Director, voiced her confidence that the experience both Schlagel and Gordy have acquired across the region would help the Group push new boundaries in its 2012 report. “Anne and Alex have built up a high level of expertise in emerging markets, particularly the Asian economies, which has enabled them to establish key working relationships with leading decision-makers across the region,” she said. “As Thailand moves ahead in diversifying its economy and seeking out new investors, I am confident that our team leaders will bring a valuable synergy to our operations and capture the crucial developments taking place here in our highly-anticipated 2012 publication.” The Report: Thailand 2012 will mark the culmination of more than six months of on-the-ground research by a team of analysts from OBG. It will provide information on opportunities for foreign direct investment into Thailand’s economy and will be a guide to the many facets of the country, including its macroeconomics, infrastructure, banking and sectoral developments.
