Mr. Setsuo IUCHI, JETRO Bangkok President, together with members of Japanese Chamber of Commerce (JCC), on behalf of the Japanese community, called on Mr. Witoon Simachokedee, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Industry (MOI), on 12 October at 18.45 hours to request for the following urgent measures to handle the flood disaster:
1. Speedy measure to drain waters from industrial estates which are already flooded
Request for timely and concrete actions in order to drain waters from flooded industrial estates while ensuring the safety of the local people in the surrounding areas, as well as the temporary relocation support from the government and military agencies to protect important facilities such as data servers which will be very crucial for the factories to resume operation.
2. Dissemination of accurate and speedy information
Request for a central body to disseminate timely and accurate information on flood situation in English.
3. Financial support for Japanese SMEs affected by flood disaster
Request for rebuilding funding and other financial support from SME Bank.
4. Flexible enforcement of various rules and regulations
Request for the flexibility of various rule and regulation enforcement in response to the changed situations.
In response to the above requests, Mr. Witoon Simachokedee, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Industry, agreed to convey these requests to Industry Minister for presenting to Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and assured that the Thai government, under the supervision of the prime minister, would be making the best effort to control the situation as it deeply regretted the loss of the damage caused.
