Visa Inc. today announced two initiatives to support the people of Thailand following the major flooding throughout the country.
In conjunction with its client banks, Visa will waive interchange fees effective from 15 October 2011 through 15 December 2011 on domestic donations made to charitable organizations (MCC 8398) in Thailand. This means inter-bank processing charges on charitable contributions made by Visa cardholders to Thailand-based charities will be donated back to those charities.
Additionally, to help meet humanitarian needs, Visa will make a donation to the Thailand Red Cross of US$10,000.
Somboon Krobteeranon, Country Manager, Thailand, Visa, said: “The recent floods in Thailand have been devastating to many people across the country. Visa is committed to helping the Thai people recover from the country’s worst flooding in 50 years through our own charitable contribution as well as encouraging Thais to donate to local charities.”
