Bangkok--3 Nov--Damco
Damco, a global leader in supply chain solutions and freight forwarding, is helping to deliver essential survival kits to the victims of the worst floods in Thailand since 1942.
Damco has donated the use of a truck to help television channel Thai TV3 to deliver urgently needed supplies in Ayudhaya, Nakornsawan, Lopburi, Nontaburi, and other flooded areas. The truck will move the necessities from Thai TV3 to various flood relief centers daily for further distribution to the flood victims, many of whom have been trapped in houses flooded with water up to three meters high.
“As a company operating in Thailand, Damco would like to provide support to the country and people during this time of crisis,” said Kiattichai Pitpreecha, Managing Director, Damco Thailand. “We hope our Damco truck will be of great help to the needy.”
The flooding has spread over 63 of Thailand’s 77 provinces over the past three months as heavy rainfall forced dams to release large amounts of water, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation at the Ministry of the Interior. While 37 provinces are recovering, 26 are now flooded. The water is now flowing through the capital toward the Gulf of Thailand, 30 kilometers to the city’s south.
Floodwaters have killed almost 400 people and swamped about 10,000 factories north of Bangkok. This includes 838 factories in seven affected industrial estates and another 9,021 factories outside these areas. The government announced a five-day holiday through Oct. 31 for 21 northern and central provinces to give people time to prepare for and deal with the flooding. As people rush to shops to stock up on supplies and supply chains break down, the country faces shortages of bottled water, eggs and baby formula.
“We are in need of transportation urgently and are glad that Damco is kind enough to support us,” said Pramot Wuttisarn, Vice President of Thai TV Color Channel 3.
