Bangkok--9 Nov--AIT A major victim of the current flood crisis in Thailand, the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) remains completely inundated under almost 2-metres of flood water, more than two weeks after it was flooded on Friday, October 21. The flood has caused heavy damage to the international institute located adjacent to Thammasat University in Pathumthani province. The empty campus is now secured and patrolled by boat by Royal Thai Army personnel. All of AIT’s classrooms, laboratories, dormitories and offices on the ground level across its 330-acre campus have been heavily damaged. On October 21, the institute evacuated more than 1000 students, staff, and faculty members representing more than 40 nationalities, with most quickly returning to their home countries. AIT now plans to resume all of its classes on December 1, by establishing a temporary campus at Stamford International University, Hua Hin, and Webster University, Cha-am / Hua Hin. The temporary relocation is intended to facilitate the ongoing classes and research of its current students, and to house those entering AIT during its upcoming January 2012 semester. AIT has also established two temporary offices in central Bangkok at the 414 INTOUCH Tower 1, 25th Floor, Phaholyothin Rd., Soi 8 (Soi Sailom), and at the Mahittalathibet Building, Faculty of Economics, Chulalongkorn University.
